Guest lister7474 Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 If you break your SPV within the warranty and try to get it repaired, don't hold your breath... "I purchased the device on 18 November 2003 and around the middle of February it developed a fault with the battery. After contacting OneStopPhoneShop (the company I purchased it from), I was told that the telephone was still under the "manufacturers warranty" and that if I contacted the manufacturer I would be able to organise a repair. I contacted Hays Technology on the number I was given on 18 February this year and after giving some details was told that a prepaid envelope would be sent to me so I could send the unit to be repaired free of charge. I was also told that the repair would take 3-4 working days. I received the envelope the next day and posted it that morning. I rang the number again on 27 February to check up on the unit; I am a student and I rely heavily on my mobile phone. I was told that the work had not been completed but that I would receive the phone on Monday of Tuesday (2 or 3 of March) next week. The phone did not arrive on Tuesday so I rang again to see what was going on. I was told that it still had not been sent but that it would be sent "soon". I complained that the repair had now taken 8 working days but was told that there was nothing they could do; I 'd simply have to wait. I received the unit on Thursday 4 March, more than 10 full working days after the had received it. After restoring all of my numbers nad data, I realised that the Bluetooth (wireless data transfer) and the SD Card slot (memory card slot) on the phone were not working. I was fairly angry about this, as it had appeared that all they had done was reset the device, and in fact had not repaired any part of the phone's hardware. I tried this before phoning in the first place but it did not work. I phoned them again the same day (4 March) and told them what had happened. I was told that "SPVs have problems with Bluetooth" and that I would need to send it back again. I asked to speak to a technician so that I could ascertain exactly what they had done to the device, only to be told that I could not. I asked how they could make such a big mistake, and asked why they hadn't tested the phone before sending it back. "We have a stringent quality control procedure that all devices go through before being sent back". ?!?!?! I was told that another envelope would be sent and that "Priority status" would be placed on the device to hurry it through the repair process. I received the envelope the next day and posted it off for the second time. I realised that I could not live without a mobile phone so I purchased a cheap Payasyougo mobile (£49) to use until mine was returned - I had lost faith in the "3-4 working days" promise. It was at this stage that I decided to write a letter of complaint to Hays Technology, which is attached to this email. I stated the facts and asked how this could happen. As yet I have had no reply. I received the phone back on Saturday March 13 only to find that the SD card slot still had exactly the same problem. By that point I was absolutely furious. After phoning again on Monday 15 March (now nearly a month after I originally sent the phone off to be repaired in the first place) I was told that I would have to send the phone back AGAIN to be repaired. " - thats where i am at now Has anyone else had any such problems? Htc, what a joke
Guest pacey2g Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 crap :) my sd card slot has failed and i dont have orange care, so i think i might have to send it to htc as well uh oh...... btw if i do have to send it off, shall i uninstall all my homescreens n apps? in case they try to blame it on them? on an e200 can i use the clear storage option, or do u need an sd card in for it to work? anyway, do i have to send it with my sim card etc? or just the handset?
Guest squall Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 ive sent 2 phones off to hayes - both times i hard reset them first as they will prob do it anyway and i dont really want them going through my phone files.
Guest pacey2g Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 do i need the sd card to work for a hard reset though, or am i gettin confused with rom upgrades, i know u need an sd card for sumthing
Guest efjay Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 ive sent 2 phones off to http://www.modaco.com/ftopic87578>hayes - both times i http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset them first as they will prob do it anyway and i dont really want them going through my phone files. did you actually get ur phones fixed?
Guest squall Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 erm NO, but thats not the point - one was water damaged and uprepairable, and the other was well emm... Remember if they cannot repair your phone you have to pay almost £20 to get it back
Guest squall Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 oh and the sd card slows down the time for the phone to start up so makes it more likely you will get into the boot loader (and there is one rom version that wont hard reset without a sd card - just not sure what one)
Guest drblow Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 That is a disgraceful state of affairs!! It's just another nail in the coffin for HTC devices, eh? Although, makes me glad I got my phone from Orange - irrespective of all the bugs & problems with SPV's, I must admit that Orange are very good at replacing devices which are faulty. Hell, they've given me 6 e200's so far!!
Guest squall Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I believe orange care is the best insurance scheme available in the uk at the mo. Trouble normally starts if you dont have orange care and develop a fault.
Guest lister7474 Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Just found out something and I better point it out - Hays Technology are NOTHING to do with HTC, they are just commisioned by HTC to repair HTC phones..... No I dont understand either, but anyway, HTC have terminated their contract with Hays for one reason or another, so maybe HTC have realised how poor Hays really is...
Guest squall Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 i knew Hayes were not part of HTC - but this is the first of me hearing about a severed contract. Lets hope the replacement service has less problems!
Guest john.-h Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 orange care is the best around, take a tip if your phone breaks as they do when you do not have insurance put orange care on your account before you report the fault. If you have already reported the fault ring orange and ask for emergency care this is a on off charge of £30 then you must have orange care from then its well worth it you get your phone replaced next day guarenteed.we all know how good orange care is.
Guest squall Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 that would be fraud. however you can get an emergency replacement for a one of payment of £70.
Guest john.-h Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 orange told me emergency replacement for 30 pounds
Guest squall Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 the £30 emergency replacement then requires you to sign up to orange care for a year.
Guest PT-1 Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 As mentioned in this discussion Hays Technology does no longer repair the SPV's. DO not know the name of the company but number is: 0871 223 0217 and they sent you an envelope to get it shipped to them and it should not take longer than 5-6 days. Cheers PT-1
Guest lister7474 Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 HTC now repair there OWN phones. They have just started (literally two weeks ago) operating locally in Europe. If you want to send your phone back, don't hold your breath... I spoke to someone at HTC two days after they took over the contract from Hays and they already had TWENTY phones waiting for repair.....
