Guest blewer Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Hi everyone. I have a JVC GR-DVP1 digital video camera and today have fitted a firewire card to my PC :) I am using Pinnacle Studio 8.7 and have managed to capture the video from my camera. When making the film I convert to VCD and write this to a CD-RW. This all seems to work fine until I try and play the CD-RW on my DVD player. My DVD is an LG DV1010, it says it can read VCD. When I place the CD in the player it recognises that it's a VCD 2.0 as it comes on the screen but then nothing else happens??? Is there an obvious reason for this or can anyone else suggest a better way of doing this? I am writing to a Philips CD-RW80 Highspeed 4-12x. I don't have a dvd writer although I might get one. I am using XP. Thanks in advance for any help Adam
Guest smeg36 Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Just an obvious one, did you hit play? With my DVD player, it will look like a blank screen until I hit play. Also, do you have it in the proper format (PAL, NTSC) for your country? The USA and Japan use NTSC format, and Europe uses PAL.

One thing that really bugged me is that if I press pause the screen goes funny and I can force the sound to play by pressing fast forward then play quickly. No picture though? Weird. I've got to sort this quick as the videos are taking huge amounts of my hard drive up. I just want to put it on a disc that a dvd player can play and that's it. Maybe it's easier if I get a dvd writer???
Guest beersoft Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 you could try using nero6 that works and is simple but for the best results i found dvd2svcd works nicely (if you have a lot of spare time for it to run) later Owen
Guest blewer Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Can someone do me a favor? E.mail me a very short (5 seconds) VCD that works on their dvd player. I want to see if it's just my dvd player that won't read it. Thanks guys :) [email protected] Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest PritenC Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Are you using the right codec, because only some dvd players out there can read avi, divx and mpeg layer 2, best to encod e a short film using TeMPGEnc to mpg file format. For more help go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com
Guest zeta101 Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 try a cdr instead, it might be that your dvd player isnt good at playing back cdrws or maybe the brand of cdrw isnt very good.
Guest blewer Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 All sorted now, thanks for the help :)
Guest blewer Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 It seemed to work on a different dvd player :? Which is quite strange as the one it works on is crap and old. My other player says it can play VCD discs, but it just doesn't seem to read. Looks like I will have to dig out the old player once in a while :)
