Until i cancelled my contract to move to pay as u go. since doing that my phone has ****** up and now wont go past the orange sunset screen if anyone knows how to solve this please tell me i have tried to hard reset and update to 1.6 neither worked. I phoned orange they said that it is faulty and now i have cancelled my contract my insurance is invalid unless i purchase PAUG insurance which is £50. so please if anyone can help post it cause i believe it is possible to fix if everything is done in right order all help would be very grateful. as i am skint and cant afford new phone. :) Thanks guys
Guest squall Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 firstly try rerunning the 1.6 update. seems strange it wouldnt go passed the sunset screen after you ran it but its worth a go. edit -
Guest jahworks Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 cant do that as i have already registered p.a.u.g sim. should i erase rom then update to 1.6 in canary mode or other way round
Guest squall Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 go into canary mode then run the update
Guest jahworks Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 still nothing i just updated while the phone in canary state. Then remove battery, replaced and turned on still stuck damn thing. Anymore suggestions. Thanks
Guest MrMagoo Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 how long are you waiting when it appears stuck ? It can take a long time to boot after an update...
Guest jahworks Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 i have waiting till the phone battery has died again so @ least 1hr
Guest jahworks Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 so anyone have any more ideas. Is it possible to reset back to the very original settings like when it comes out the box as this is my last choice. I really cant afford a new phone. I hate Orange  what can i do to get new phone. Does it matter that my phone has canary 1.10 thanks for any help.
Guest MrMagoo Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 i have waiting till the phone battery has died again so @ least 1hr This statement worries me - you should not be trying to update the rom while running on battery power! And if you are saying that it ran out of power after about an hour - that means the battery was very low to start with... So, were you on battery power while updating? if so try charging the phone for at least a couple of hours, the try the update again but Keep the power connected throughout the whole process of hard-reset / update / reboot ... If you already had the power on - kick me in the butt and I will shut up :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Strange one as the fix for being stuck on the sunset screen fix is normally a Hard Reset first then if the problem continues re-running the update. As long as you can get to the canary screen then the phone should be repairable.
Guest jahworks Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 still no luck i left on charge all night then hardreset then updated but still did not go past the god damn sunset screen. tried with and without both sim and sd card. any more ideas or should i just bin it. Maybe someone has old update i can use maybe that will help. 1 thing i was unsure of was when updated it say updated from and to v1.6 but the from bit doesnt say anthing. anyway i will keep on it any ideas please post Cheers Guys :)
Guest mattat Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Just checking - when you are updating you do have the power cord plugged into the cradle don't you (so the cradle is connected both to the PC and to the mains power). Sorry if this is patronising, but it's a very common mistake not to realise that the charger for the phone can and must be plugged into the cradle for the update to work, and it's my best suggestion at the moment.
Guest jahworks Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 yep power cable in but the power light on phone doesnt light when in canary mode or on sunset screen.
