Guest wwwwww Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 As my other question seems to have come to a stop (see wwwwww post in help & advice) I though I would start again to see if any progress could be made in a new one. I have an SPV which has been (at last) upgraded to 1.6 rom, it has v.99 bootloader. I am trying to sim unlock it so that I can use my sim card in it (vodafone) but as yet have had no luck. v1 of the sPv simlock does not work - it says error and closes. v2 of the simlock gets a code almost immediately, but when I turn the phone off put in the voda sim and reboot it just goes straight to home screen. I think i have done about 4 rom upgrades now and countless hard resets, but nothing seems to work. i have not seen this problem listed by anyone else either. It does recognise the voda sim as it says vodafone in the service provider line - however i can't make/receive calls (three beeps and dropped) although I can txt message and browse the internet (although this appears to be patchy as to available content). The sim works in my vodafone T610 for all services. Please let me know if you can offer ANY help as I havespent a lot of money of a highly technical silver lego brick if you can't!! Thanks for your time reading please post a reply if you can

Guest wwwwww Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 yeah have done countless hard resets as stated originally. I really dont know what else I can do as my instincts now telling me it might be a network or at least a vodafone issue. will try calling them but can't see them being much help with SPv settings?
Guest martin Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I've just tried my Vodaphone PAYG SIM and it's OK. Any luck with Vodafone ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest wwwwww Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 No reasons from Vodafone "Why don't you try orange", so I tried Orange. "No reason it should not work, have you tried speaking to Vodafone?"......and so it goes on!!! It seems there is no reason at all it shouldn't work. Does anyone think if I paid the £20 fee to orange to unlock the phone that it may work then or is that just a waste of my cash? Can i even do it as I was not on orange contract before or will they not like that? There have been no arial problems in my area according to voda, borne out by my ability to use thesim in another phone.
Guest martin Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I actually believe this is a network fault and thought I knew what it was but something doesn't quite add up. When you call the mobile phone (from another phone) does it ring as normal then drop when answered ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest wwwwww Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 No it doesn't, you just get a "this number has not been recognised" beep tone (the BT one if you know what I mean?) I have an inckling that it is a hardware problem as my good lady's sim (orange) does not work in the phone - it says no service and/or then network denied. This is after putting network selection to automatic. The phone has just come back from Hayes tech repair centre for a dc charger fault - could thisbe related?
Guest martin Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I was hoping you were having the same fault on mobile terminating calls. So the mobile definitely doesn't ring ? It thought it could be transcoding but I couldn't figure out why the fault seemed local yet wasn't picked up on the other phone. I thought this was possibly due to different transceivers or cells. You can successfully initiate a WAP dialup using a GSM timeslot so there are no errors in the link. You can also send and receive SMS so signalling should be OK. I'm not sure if it would be the battery because you can make a GSM data call. What exactly happens with the Orange SIM ? Also does SIM manager read the SIM OK ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest wwwwww Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Forgive my non-technically minded response! I beleive you are saying that its odd I can text and use wap but not voice calls? Do you know of any settings I may need to enter or use in the SPV that would not be there normally. another odd thing - no matter how many upgrades i do, i don't need to run the unlocker before it willread my voda sim. is this odd? It seems so to me.
Guest martin Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I don't think you need to manually enter the code with SPV2unlock. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest martin Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Oh it's an important one. Can you get the mobile to ring or does it fail before the ringing ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest martin Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Blimey - just had a thought They haven't barred your EMEI (your phone) have they ? Give Orange CS a call and just make sure. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest wwwwww Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Thats it! IMEI is barred, is there any way I can 'unofficially' unbar the phone as I bought it second hand from ebay, thus will have difficulty returning it to the shop to get it done, orange will not do it under any circumstances as I am not orig owner of phone.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Sorry there is no way you to get it unbarred. The original owner has either not paid his bill or has tried the usual insuance fraud and claimed his phone was lost stolen. Make sure you report them to ebay and get your money back.
Guest mattat Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Sorry, it is seriously illegal to even have software that changes IMEI - around 5 yrs in prison I think. You only have a couple of options: 1. Get refund on phone from seller 2. Try to find out from Orange why it was barred - if it was because of non-payment, you may be able to pay them the outstanding sum and get them to unbar it. If it's stolen, or other reasons then you have a fairly useless bit of electronics.
Guest wwwwww Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Ok cheers for everyones help, Ill get on to ebay and see about getting my money back, shouldn't be too much of an issue with that. I'm just a bit gutted to have spent time and money accruing the various bits and bobs I thought I could use, to not be able to.
Guest martin Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Oh dear :) The problem is that the IMSI (SIM) and IMEI (device) are associated. It could be that the seller transfered their SIM to another phone and then lost that phone. Orange will bar the SIM and associated device - Yours. Other possibilites are scams. Sell it then report it lost or stolen. Lets hope not. The only way to find out if the purchase was genuine is to contact the seller and ask them to speak to Orange CS. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest wwwwww Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Yeah I have sent two emails to seller, 1 was heated and I hope it gets how p***ed off I am accross to him, the second basically outlining the fact that if he can't/won't sort out the problem I will make things on ebay fairly hard for him to continue selling stolen stuff. Basically I feel a bit stupid for being taken in (if I was) but mostly hacked off at wasting everyone's time, and my money. Does anyone know where I might lay my hands on an SPV for not too much outlay as it has all gone on this one!!
