Guest drblow Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Any techies here help me out?? I have a relatively new PC, and recently I've had a few instances of a blue screen crash on the shutdown procedure (something about non-paged area, and physical memory dump). It only happens on shutdown, the rest of the time it works fine!? Any ideas on how to fix it?
Guest Stuart P Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Presumably it's an XP machine?... Start > control Panel > administrative tools > event viewer > system, then have a look through the list for anything recent with an error, or anything mentioning memory dumps. double click on the log entry for a bit more detail. you should find something along the lines of "stop error 0x000000D1". Try searching the microsoft knowledgebase for the stop code, or post it here and i'll do it for you. ps. if it does by some fluke happen to be 000000D1, it's something to do with usb devices which can be resolved by the XP service pack! Stu pps. love "the grid" skin, mate!
Guest drblow Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Cheers Stuart P!! Glad somebody liked that grid screen! I've had a look through that event viewer & haven't found anything saying memory dump, or stop error ... the best I could find was a system error Event Type: Error Event Source: System Error Event Category: (102) Event ID: 1003 Date: 09/03/2004 Time: 11:13:36 User: N/A Computer: DEEPTHOUGHT Description: Error code 10000050, parameter1 e332e000, parameter2 00000001, parameter3 8060c06d, parameter4 00000001. Guest Stuart P Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Hi Dr, Sorry I couldn't find anything specifically related to that error code. Anyway, here's a link to an article on general shutdown troubleshooting http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...9&Product=winxp (cut and paste it all into your browser) best of luck! Stu.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Dr, Phy. memory dumps will kill your PC - I was out of action for a month ! Had to reinstall XP and overwrote my Home edition with Pro - it nuked my harddrive and I lost everything ! I have since changed the following settings: Go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and make two changes: Where it says "Write Debugging Information" change it to NONE (this will stop the crash dumps) UNcheck Automatically Restart (this will keep the system from rebooting when it encounters an error). Hopefully this helps you m8, spacecowboy
