Guest Foxy2k Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Hello everyone. I'm brand spanking new to this site considering I only got my SPV e200 this afternoon. I have searched this forum for a solution to my problem but have failed to find an aswer that worked. When I recive SMS messages only the number is displayed in the inbox. I tried reformatting the numbers into international format but the inbox still displays numbers only. If I then open the SMS I can select the number and it will take me to the Contact Screen of the sender but this seems like a long-winded way to find out who sent me a text! Is there something I am missing? Because I'm desperate to get it so it shows the name of the Contact instead of the number. In short my inbox looks like this: +7912345678 20.55 Little bit of text +7912345679 20.54 Another bit of text But I want it to look like: John Smith 20.55 Little bit of text David Jones 20.54 Another bit of text I would be shocked if this isnt possible but I would really like to know who sent me the text before opening it, and on my old Nokia it was easy. On the "Smart" SPV it seems to be doing things the long way round. Thanks in advance for your replies!
Guest ferret Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 is it the same after you've received a sms? Because changing the number to +44 fromat after you've got a text will not change the from name. The names do appear after you've changed the format I can assure you! drunk
Guest martin Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Welcome Foxy2k Yep, they have to be in International format. Changing the number format won't correct the existing SMS messages but the name should now show in new messages. Try creating a contact with your own number and then send yourself a text message :) Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Foxy2k Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Thanks guys I was expecting the previously stored messages to update themselves, which or course I know now that they don't! It was about time I got rid of my old messages anyways :) Thanks again!!
Guest Jay247 Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 The other problem is that if you have the same number saved in two different contacts. In that case, the SPV doesn't know which name to display and will just leave it as the plain number. I found that only the last 7 digits are checked, so international format is not essential for the name to be linked to a number.
