Guest marmo Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Hi everybody, can someone answer: 1) Which files I have to put in the SD Card? Games, Apps, Wavs, ... 2) If I put Doom (or any other program) in the SD Card, than I remove the card to put in the Sd camera, would I have problems? Or all I have to do is just don't use that game (or program) when I'm using the camera? 3) If I put a .wav file in the sd card and I use it for contacts, than I remove the card to put in the Sd camera, would I have problems? For example if someone call me when his personal ringtone is away because I'm using the camera, what happens? 4) Thanks a lot! Sorry for my english! Marmo
Guest marmo Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Maybe would have been usefull to say that I'm a Mpx200 owner and that the questions were referred to it! Sorry again... Marmo
Guest siu99spj Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Hi everybody, can someone answer: 1) Which files I have to put in the SD Card? Games, Apps, Wavs, ...You can put absolutely anything you want on the SD card. You might need to change the registry for a couple of things (ringtones for example), but it should all work. 2) If I put Doom (or any other program) in the SD Card, than I remove the card to put in the Sd camera, would I have problems? Or all I have to do is just don't use that game (or program) when I'm using the camera? No problems on the phone, you just won't be able to use anything that was stored on the now removed SD card. Although highly unlikely, its possible that your camera may not like the 'alien' files on SD card. As I said, not very likely but just remotely possible. 3) If I put a .wav file in the sd card and I use it for contacts, than I remove the card to put in the Sd camera, would I have problems? For example if someone call me when his personal ringtone is away because I'm using the camera, what happens? No problems as such, the ringtones should just revert to basic defaults. Again it might be wise just to test it but I don't forsee any hang ups. 4) Thanks a lot! Sorry for my english! Marmo Hey no problem, glad I could help (And trust me, your English is better than mine usually is!)
Guest marmo Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 T H A N K S _ A _ L O T ! ! ! So I can put in the sd card also programs like Smart Explorer or SP Task Manager and use the camera whenever I want? Tell me please if this could be right: -when I want to use the sd camera I terminate all the applications running with SP Task Manager; -now I can remove the card without problems; -than I put in the camera to make some videos or photos [obviously I won't use anything could be in the sd card, right?] -after that I remove the camera and I put in the sd card again. Could you also tell me please how big the sd card should be? 128 Mb could be enough? I think I'll put there some games (...ok, a lot of games :)), some mp3s, maybe some videos T H A N K S _ A G A I N
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Basically yes to the above  As for card size it's best to get as large as you can afford. I use a 128MB and after a few songs, movie trailers and games it's full up. So I would recommend a 256MB :)
Guest marmo Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Thanks a lot for help! One more question... how can I clear some space in the telephone so I can put in it some games until I buy an SD card? And do you know if the emulators (NES, SNES, GB,...) work well in the mpx200? I think the games with small sprites could make the player short-sighted (but I have never tried actually)...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 gnuboy works very well on the MPX200 but for clearing space you could uninstall the Caller ID and if you do not send and recieve MMS then you could also uninstall the jmms app.
Guest marmo Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 About Gnuboy: how can I install it in the sd card? And where I have to put the roms? Somewhere I have read that they must be in the same directory of the emu, but where the emu would be installed? Do you have a link with the instructions. T H A N K _ A G A I N ! ! !
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 the gnuboy.exe needs to be in the same folder that the roms are in. Please do not ask for roms here though as they are classed as warez.
Guest marmo Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 The link I asked for was for the instructions to use gnuboy, not a link for the roms... for example a page that tells you how to install (.exe or .cab?) gnuboy and how to install the roms (not were they can be found). Thanks
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I realise that I was only mentioning roms before you asked :) Gnuboy is a .exe file that you place on the phone or storage card, as mention above just place the exe file in the same folder as the roms you have. After that just create a shortcut and place it in IPSMWindowsStart MenuGames then you can go to Games on the phone and run the emulator.
Guest marmo Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 T H A N K S _ A _ L O T ! ! ! Sorry but I don't know how to create a shortcut (and sorry but I don't even know what is it! ). Please be patient and explain me :) . Would I have to do this 'shortcut' for all the games I want to put in the storage card? Or only for .exe? Do you think it would be better to do a back-up before I try to install things? And if yes how can I do it (the back-up)? (I don't want to be boring, so if there is a section in the site where the back-up is explained I would take a look  ). T H A N K S _ A _ L O T . . . A G A I N ! ! !
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 There is not a backup as as such and to be honest I never do one. If the phone messes up because I've been playing too much with the phone I just hard reset and start again as it does not take long to reinstall apps and resync my contacts etc. Creating a shortcut on the phone is the same as you would on the PC So for example, Open Activsync and explore the phone to location of the storage card, now right click and choose New Folder to create a folder on the storage card which you can call gameboy. Now place the Gnuboy.exe file in the folder and right click on it and select Copy, now explore the phone and go to IPSMWindowsStart MenuGames in this folder right click again and choose Paste Shortcut. You have now created a shortcut in your ProgramsGames folder ready for you to use :) As for general file installation there are a few different types. .cab and .hme need to be placed in IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories These will self install once selected. the other type is .exe there are two types of .exe one is a setup file which will run via the PC, the other you have to place on the phone (as with the Gnuboy.exe)
Guest marmo Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 G R E A T ! ! ! You've been very clear, and patient  ! Just one more question: when you make the hard-reset, you're phone come back to the 'out-of-the-box' state, right? So you have to reinstall all the stuff ](*,) ! Can I save for example the contacts somewhere/somehow in my desktop pc? So if I ever have to hard-reset the phone, this step of put in the contacts again would be easier...(I don't know if I'm writing correct  , anyway...) Where are the contacts saved in the phone? Is there a file or a folder? If yes can you tell me how to save them? T H A N K S ! ! !
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Sync your contacts in Outlook using Activsync. A copy of Outlook is included on the CD that came with the phone. With Outlook every time you connect your phone your contacts and calender etc will be syncronised with the PC
