Guest rimmer Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Hi all, I eventually got my E200 today and I was already prepared for the infamous "buzzing" However I haven't read anything about a buzz while recording video, this happens on mine (sounds like a bad TV reception) is this the case with everyone? Many thanks.
Guest James Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 not for me mate... Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest shardy Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Yeah, my sound quality on video recordings is also poor,, on both my first and 2nd e200s. I'm just waiting for the ROM update to see if that has any effect. I hope we don't have to wait too much longer! :)
Guest rimmer Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 It seems to be the same on the Voice Recorder 2. I even dug out my horrible NEC e606 and tested the sound quality on that and it was good. I have just got my E200 and I have 12 days to return it, does the French ROM upgrade improve the soind quality on the French E200's ?
Guest shardy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Hey rimmer, any luck with the update? Video sound quality is still dreadful on mine after the update, so back to Orange with the phone...
Guest rimmer Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Nah video quality still dreadful, but call quality and battery life is great. I really dont want to return it - i may email iastyle and ask them if this is a know problem. Is yours the same? Just a bad TV reception noise with only a faint hint of background sound?
Guest shardy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 yeah, same lots of static hissing, and if you're lucky you can hear a bit of talking in the background. I don't want 2 return mine either, but I don't want to keep it if it's faulty. Only our phones seem to have this problem, so it can't be that common, a replacement phone would probably not have the same problem. Out of interest, if I do a voice memo the hissing noise is much quieter and the voice more audible, yet it must be using the same mic! Is that the same for you?
Guest rimmer Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Yeah I noticed that too. I think before the update it was worse though. I have emailed Iastyle and asked them if its a known problem. When did you get yours? I have only had mine since Wednesday.
Guest shardy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I've had this handset since last Wednesday, I had another one for 4 days before that but the joystick didn't work properly! Maybe ours are from the same bad batch as they're both new, is there a batch number or something on the phone? Don't want to get a replacement from the same batch!
Guest rimmer Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Can find anything obvious. I got mine form Orangedealer.co.uk and they were very helpful. I may ask them to test one out before they send it too me if i get a replacement - which looks like the only solution.
Guest shardy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Yeah, I've spoken to Orange CS and they said to get it replaced. I got it from an Orange shop so I'll just take it back tomorrow. I'll let you how it goes.
Guest confusion_boy Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Hey, I got my SPV e200 today and also noticed earlier that there was a shocking amount of static noise when trying to record video, couldnt hear anything else that was going on. Anyway, i have just installed the orange update and can confirm now that the sound quality for both calls AND video is excellent. I hope others are having the same success.
Guest rimmer Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Interesting. There must be more people out there experiencing this. Its a shame the upgrade didnt fix the fault on mine although voice notes is now a lot clearer. Damn phones.
Guest DeFacto Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Actually, I installed the update this morning, and found that there's a terrible hissing when replaying video files, even when recording was done in a quite room. I'm pretty sure it wasn't this bad before. I got my e200 this tuesday, and I've got a couple of days to return it, really don't want to though.
Guest rimmer Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Interesting that everyone (well all 3 of us) complaining about this has just got their handset within the last week.
Guest RiCCiO Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 My French SPV E200 was recording audio without problems. Now, AFTER update, I have very bad audio in videos!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a shame :)
Guest DeFacto Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 My French SPV E200 was recording audio without problems. Now, AFTER update, I have very bad audio in videos!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a shame :) ditto, well apart from the french part. I copied a video recording I made before the upgrade back unto the phone, compared it with a recording made after the upgrade and found that there was a huge difference in the 'hissing' sounds, which was almost nonexistant before. I've come to the conclusion that this is a software rather than a hardware problem
Guest shardy Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 No luck changing my phone so far, Orange have admitted that it is faulty but it seems there's now a shortage of e200s, at least in the Midlands! I think my video sound quality got worse after the update too, although it wasn't good before as I've already said. Still I can't deny that I like the e200 even tho it has caused me more problems than all my previous phones put together...
Guest efjay Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I got one today from an orange shop and got the hissing both before and after the update, think i'll return it for another, upgraded from a P800 and at last i've got proper synching with outlook, hopefully more updates to improve things further
Guest Machinly Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Ive had my e200 since december and have just updated and guess what? I've suddenly got that buzzing noise when recording video that was never there before the update! What's going on Orange?
Guest MonkeyJug Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 same here - i got mine a week before christmas and had perfect video playback. now, after the rom upgrade, when i use the video recorder and play back the file, all i can hear is an awful screeching noise along with the video... :) what can we do? Guest shardy Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Well, I eventually managed to get my phone replaced today, but it took 2 hours of arguing! The "28 Days" department refused to authorise the Orange shop to replace the handset because there was an open fault report on the account which "Technical Services" hadn't processed. I ended up speaking to customer services 4 times whilst in the shop, one CS operator told me that all the supervisors were in a meeting (on a Sunday?) and that the technical services department didn't have phones so she couldn't ring them! A department within a phone company that doesn't have phones?! I eventually managed to speak to a supervisor by calling back, the supervisor authorised the exchange, but guess what? The 28 days exchange department refused again! So, back on to Orange CS... a second supervisor authorised the exchange, the shop then rang the exchange people again and.... they refused. Eventually, the shop assistant (who was very helpful and said she wouldn't blame me if I left Orange) just kept ringing the exchange people again and again until she eventually got someone that would do what the supervisors said. I now have a replacement SPV e200 and the video sound quality is better than before but still not perfect. I'll just have to see if the Update fixes it (as it has with some peoples) or makes it worse again. I've spent a total of 6 hours in Orange shops in the past 2 weeks exchanging faulty e200s, I don't think I can do it again  I hope the rest of you have more luck... Sam
Guest Machinly Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 has anyone tried a hard-reset to see if this will fix the problem???
Guest shardy Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Yeah, hard reset doesn't fix this one sadly
