infosyncworld have been quick off the ceBIT mark - and have posted a picture and review of the new sagem windows powered smartphone!

Ah, the smell of breaking new ground. Several years after Sagem first gave the Windows CE operating system a chance in its wildly unsuccessful Sagem WA3050 - a WAN handheld running Pocket PC 2000 and with a proprietary telephony environment - the company is at it again. This time, the French manufacturer has picked up the Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone platform, and will be bringing to market a product dubbed the MYS-7, which will be only the second product based on this particular platform to hit European shelves.

Rather small and light when compared with other Windows Mobile smartphones, the Sagem MYS-7 appears to have good ergonomics going for it: the keypad is comfortable, the short joystick also surprisingly so - yet there is one particularly annoying flaw. Namely, the Home and Back buttons are crammed in between the joystick and send/receive buttons on each side of this, making them difficult to press accurately. This aside, other buttons are distinct and offer good tactile and audible feedback.

Sadly, the case of the malplaced Home and Back buttons does not represent the only flaw of the MYS-7, however. Its screen is at best described as mediocre, while the SD/MMC Card expansion slot is covered with a thin, rubbery latch which is destined to either break off or vanish into the slot itself after some use - unless it's reinforced with kevlar. Still, the MYS-7 rightfully deserves credit for offering SDIO functionality, and it doesn't hurt that it has a decent VGA camera either. Text input speeds were very poor, however, although this is to be expected with at least two quarters remaining before its release.

According to a Sagem spokesperson, the MYS-7 will be made available in the fourth quarter and sell in the 600 EUR range without a subscription: its greatest advantage will likely be its size, although it remains to see whether customers will tolerate the mediocre screen.

600 EUR!

If the MPx is 749 EUR, and MPx100 at 469 EUR then surely it's missing it's market (low budget) completely?

Unless you can tell me that the MPx is 749 EUR including contract, but that's out of everyone's budget!

i cant see it costing 600 euros to be honest, its either a factual error or mistype i would have thought. Sagem are known to be very competative on price, and that would price themselves out of the market. Its 6 months away, so I dont know how they can give a price to be honest, and the display will most likely not be the final display aswell.

hehe, the thing is, most mobile manufacturers are now putting in mini-sd instead of regular sd, including the new samsung, so who do you trust.... motorola and samsung or sagem & htc :)

Excellent!

Ive been looking for something new since the mpx200 is not unique over here anymore.

Im sure i was one of the first in my tiny country to have one but last month they started showing up in stores so there are plenty of them floating about.

I need to have a phone that no one else here has. :)

Hehe. Guess they weren't counting on HTC and Orange's diabolical plan dubbed Operation Typhoon!
