Hi folks,

I currently have the original SPV and I am looking forward to getting a new MS Smartphone. I was looking around though and I cant find any that really combines diffrent features in one phone and unfortunately there is no new Smartphone popping up on the official MS Smartphone website either.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/pro...ne/default.mspx

So I came here because I know that no one knows Smartphones better then the users of MoDaCo.

I am looking for a more powerful Smartphone that is smaller or same size as the Original SPV. (No flip-open phones though - like the Motorola).

I was thinking all of the below (similar or better ,-)

200Mhz Processor Power

32Mb Ram / 32Mb Rom

Windows Mobile 2003 OS

Bluetooth

Built in Camera (with flash or brightness control for pics in darker rooms)

MS Outlook Compatibility (Contacts, Calendar)

Does anyone know of a current Smartphone that comes close to these specifications above or know of any releases of Smartphones in the near future (until Summer 2004).

Any suggestions or personal experiences are welcome even if it is not a MS powered Smartphone.

Thanks-a-million,

Max

The SPV E200 has all those specs except the 200mhz cpu... :)

this is SO the wrong place to ask this question without getting a stupidly biased result.

so far you have 11 votes to none which means that Modaco readers think that Smartphone is infinitely better than Simbian.

have you looked at the motorolla mpx100? it has a nice camera

Man, I did some research and found some interesting web site.

http://www.symbian.com/phones/index.html

They really got some hot phones coming out and if MS doesn't bring something new in the next few months, then I am really considering switching.

Really like the Sendo X and Motorola A1000 - some cool stuff.

What do you guys think?

PS: Check out the wireless lan capability on some of these phones. perfect for the upcoming hotspots...

And the fact that the e200 is actually BIGGER than the 1st SPV

MPX200 all the way for me, shame you don't like flip phones, it actually outperforms the e200!

I saw some pictures of the MPX200, but I just really dont like the flip phones thing. Any others?

Also back to the Symbian OS.

I am very curious. Why would the Symbian OS suck?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Does anybody has experiences with the different OSs and would be so nice and post their conclusion.

Thanks, Max

sagem my s7 and motorola mpx100, why are you not considering those?

both will have at least 200mhz processors in them (no announcement on mpx100 processor, but my gut feeling is its an omap 2, which will kick any phones butt if it is), both are smaller than any spv, both have inbuilt cameras (motorola has flash and 1.3megapixel, sagem is standard vga), both have 32mb ram, both are windows mobile 2003. the mpx100 does have the advantage on battery power though, with an expected 200hr standby compared to sagems 100hr standby, but, if rumours are to be beleived, the sagem will be cheaper than any other ms smartphone on the market.

if you change your mind on flipphones, theres the samsung i250, and, with any luck, the motorola mpx220, again, both will have good inbuilt cameras (samsungs is 1megapixel), and both look pretty small to me, even if the samsung does have a large antenna.

this is just the ms smartphone phones announced so far, and theres plenty of the year left for more announcements, and you can bet that htc will be working on something, and mitac have announced they will be releasing several mio smartphones this year.

I found some infos on the Motorola MPX100. I really like the phone it looks very cool and seems to be very fast too. - Do you have an official url for this phone?

I could not find anything on the sagem my s7 - Do you have a url for that?

Also is there a web page, that combines excisting MS smartphones plus "soon to come" MS smartphones all on one page, so that i dont have to look in 300 different webpages to compare smartphones? Like http://www.symbian.com/phones/index.html - just for MS smartphones of course!? maybe even from HTC???

Thanks, Max

any series 60 mobile doesn't get my vote. waiting to see what serIes 80 (new nokia communicator for example) and 90 (nokia 7700) have to offer. Posted from my SmartPhone!

also try msmobiles.com for a list of phones. personaly i'd wait till both mpx and 7700 are both released, and then ask the same question specs alone don't make a good phone.. noone can tell you how good a phone will be until they use it themselves. Posted from my SmartPhone!

please msmobiles.com is not a good website to get good information. the design is not very good and you have to look around to much to find something.

Is there really no website with up to date list of MS smartphones with pics and specs??? (no bullcrap - just right to the facts!)

I think symbian http://www.symbian.com/phones/index.html has a good way of showing their diffrent phones with pics and specs. up to date and easy to read with usefull infos. - there got to be a site like this for MS Smartphones. Right???

please....

Have you seen the mpx (aka mpx300)? Its a dual flip (portrait and landscape) ppc phone. Wifi, touch screen, 1.3 mpixel cmera (with flash), 400mhz cpu, 64mb ram and is thought to run WM2003 SE.

See here for specs

See here for videos

See here, here and here for pics.

yes, MoDaCo :) watch this space

I was thinking about that because there is not really a page that combines all the MS Smartphones with 1 to 3 pics and a standard and organized list of specs (maybe even a link to the official web site)....

Over here at MoDaCo there is a lot of information about all kinds of MS Smartphones available, but it is scattered all over the place through out the forums.

So I was thinking again, why doesn’t someone take care of this and open a topic (WITH NO REPLYS) named "MS Smartphones list" or something like that and every post has a set of pics and specs of a MS Smartphone. Conveniently sorted by release date; Well I guess the first one would be the Original SPV and then so on.

You know so we can get a library of all the MS Smartphones out there. - Of cause though it has to be a topic with out replies - just for information purposes.

I would do it but I am just not up-to-date with the MS Smartphones. But I bet there is someone at MoDaCo that has the passion to start, organize and handle this kind of matter. Maybe this someone even thinks of making a webpage out of it???

What you guys think?

another thought.

With all the new MS Smartphones being shown on the CBIT this week - couldn't that be a good start to start such an informational topic (again with no replys) to introduce new MS smartphones in an organised MS Smartphones library?

or is a MS Smartphone library not wanted :!: :?:

PS: I just really dont like to look through 1000 post to get information on new Smartphones. - I think it is a good Idea.

Look at the hits this post gets - 450 hits in 2 1/2 days - only because the topic title says "Smartphones 2004 releases" - everybody wants to know about the new MS Smartphones that are coming out. -

I think an organized MS Smartphone Library would really hit it off :!: :!: :!:

The best site i have found to compare phones is www.gsmarena.com. The only thing is it does not include any phones made by HTC. Which means the SPV series is not on there. Shame that would really complete the site.

as i mentioned, its coming to MoDaCo soon, just need to be patient :)

it will be a roundup of only microsoft smartphones though, but will include specs, pictures etc. of all current and future (that we know of) smartphones

And I think Max is into something! smell a fishy fish there...
