Guest squall Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 There is a striking similarity between the motorola MPx100 sagem myS-7. The specs for the Segam phone haven't been released yet, however 'the insider' assures us the handset will cost less than the E200. The MPx100 specs were posted today - See Here - Motorola gave there unit a price tag of 469 euro making it more expensive than the E200. Will be interesting to see where this goes - two similar phones competing for the same target group...
Guest AaronSoup Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 i think in terms of the target market which i assume is supposed to bring smartphones to the general public.. motorola will win. however well sagem make phones, i don't know anyone that thinks sagem are a make to be trusted... Guest squall Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 remember this phone is manufactured by mitac not sagem i think the price could be crucial
Guest Brody Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Both phones will be great news to the market, the more the merrier!
Guest squall Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 hope so - chances are they wont be on the same carrier to - might help keep prices dwon
Guest AaronSoup Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 sagem should mean t.mobile and vodafone in the uk.. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest ultimasnake Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 http://www.smart-resource.com :) and they are real.... from an sagem newsletter
Guest Pulse Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Based on those specs, it should be cheaper with only a VGA camera, but not even a mention of bluetooth??
Guest zeta101 Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 will the mpx100 be on orange? and if so what would an upgrade cost after you have done your 12 months (can someone guess based on the price of the phone?)
Guest AaronSoup Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 My guess is Mpx100 will be a straight swap for a e200.... I'm thinking of breaking my phone some time soon to get one :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Following the ususal trend with Orange I guess the initial price will be high on release then down to £100 within a few weeksdays then down to £50 or free upgrade after a few months.
Guest Vector Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 How did they get that windows flag on the start button??!! :|
Guest Gorskar Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 They made the thing, I expect they have ways! (or likely its just in the next SP2003 update) My next phone will probably be whichever of the two comes out first... I really hope I don't have to wait too much longer... I'm getting bored of my e100 but dont want to upgrade to an e200 with these beauties around the corner. If the Sagem has bluetooth I'll take it, assuming the screen isn't too terrible. Don't really mind that much on the camera resolution, (its not going to be my main camera in either case) and the proper SD slot (as oppsed to mini-SD) and lower price make it a very attractive offering.
Guest biffsmash Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I read I think on coolsmartphone that the sagem will not have bluetooth. Not a problem for me, but I want the 1.3mp camera with flash on the new mpx or mpx 100 :)
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Why in the hell is the Motorola MPx100 NOT UMTS/3G compatabile ????? But the Motorla A1000 and E1000 is!!!! Go to http://www.gsmarena.com and compare Motorola MPx100 with Motorola A1000 or E1000 or V1000. Can someone explain that to me please?!
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 err, if it comes out at the same time they really should include the new technology!!!! DUH any 3G/UTMS MS Smartphones on the market??? (sure a lot of other 3G/UMTS Smartphones out there - see the other motoroloas above)
Guest midnight Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 but 3G is nowhere near as widespread as gsm, so they simply wont get anywhere near as many sales with a 3G phone, GSM is available everywhere, 3G isnt. so using the latest technology is not necessarily the best way to go. think in the uk they'll wait until the likes of Orange use the 3G network (seeing as currentlky in the UK only Orange distribute MS Smartphones), so no, no 3G MS Smartphones available (yet), in fact, i think theres only something like 2 nokias that are 3G.
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 I dont think that is the right way to go! - you include the technology, especially because it is a global market, and germany within other euro countries already have 3G/UMTS service. HUGE step back for MS Smartphones!!!! oh anb by the way go to http://www.gsmarena.com click on Phone finder (below all the cell phone brands on the left) - search page opens, select GSM & UTMS in the network tab and search. comes back with like 22 UTMS/3G phones that are availalbe already or will be soon. PS: MS Smrtphones need to catch up in this catagory big time - and I wished they had already becaue I would like to invest in a new MS Smartphone now and not buy another #G/UTMS one in a year ,-((((
Guest squall Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 3g isn't big in the uk - and with only one 3g provider in the uk it will be a while before it it! I cant agree with you - i think it would be a mistake to include support for 3g in a smartphone at the moment. It would likely limit the network providers selling the phone to those with 3g services. It would also mean the handsets coming out later this year would be larger than the devices which are already on the market, and more expensive.
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 1) only because 3G/UTMS is not big in the UK doesn't mean that it is very interesting for costumers in other countries, did not get your point here 2) If a MS smartphone is supported with 3G/UMTS then it also has GSM (like ALL 3G/UTMS phones on the market right now) that just means that even in counrties that do not support 3G/UMTS at the moment like the UK, still are ready to go when it is supported. (and need not buy another MS Smartphone that does support 3G/UTMS) - also for the countries that do support 3G/UTMS it is perfect because user that would like to use the new service could buy a new UTMS/3G MS Smartphones and can use it's service. - Which also gives more money to MS and is also a very good research and development aspect for countries that do not have 3G/UTMS yet like uk 3) and i dont know about the headsets being larger and bigger with the 3G/UTMS service. and who cares anyway. besides please check out the 3G/UTMS phones on the website link below. These phones come in all shapes and sizes go to http://www.gsmarena.com click on Phone finder (below all the cell phone brands on the left) - Search page opens, select GSM & UTMS in the network tab and Search. comes back with like 22 UTMS/3G phones that are availalbe already or will be soon.
Guest midnight Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 its all a mute argument, neither phone are 3g :)
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 I know - I am crying about it for days already... and I will cry myself to sleep every night until one comes out. [-(
