Guest John.medhurst Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 We run Windows ME, have two mobile devices; A PDA and a Smartphone (MPX200). Is it possible to sync' them both, while each contains diffesent info/different people's contacts etc? Or is that impossible? At present I sync occasionally on another PC, but would much prefer to sync on the home PC. Any answers gratefully received
Guest zeta101 Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 from activesync help "Partnerships are stored in ActiveSync and have the same name as the corresponding device. Your desktop computer can set up partnerships with many different mobile devices, but a device can have partnerships with only two computers. Having two partnerships enables you to share your personal information software (PIM) and other information among three computers. For example, you can keep the same contact information on your desktop computer at work, your desktop computer at home, and your device. No matter where you are viewing information, you will have the information you want at your fingertips. However, you can synchronize e-mail messages with your device and one desktop computer only."
Guest John.medhurst Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Ok, firstly thanks very much for your reply, maybe I wasn't clear enough though; I understand syncing, partnerships and guest partnerships - However, is it possible to synchronise two devices on the same PC, without combining the data on each device? You see I don't want my tasks and emails on another device - just on my device. And vice versa, the owner of the Pda doesn't want their data on my device (smartphone), however we both want to sync to the same PC. I guess it's more of an M/soft OUTLOOK issue than an activesync one... Is there a way of having two accounts on Outlook???
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Yes, in outlook you need to set up 2 "profiles" If you go to Control Panel - Mail it should have a "show profiles" button. Clicking this button will bring up a list (presumably of a single profile). Add a new one. Then either on that screen or in outlook tools-options there'll be something for saying either "Load outlook with this profile" and a tick box "Prompt for profile every time outlook is run" You want the prompt every time it's run. If that is all set up right then running outlook will present a box with a drop down list of profiles. Also when you activesync the same profile pick box will appear. If these options aren't available then I'd try installing a different version of outlook and see if it starts working. I had Outlook 2000 and the options just stubbornly didn't exist so I upgraded to Outlook 2003 and it now works primo. I think the e200 comes with outlook 2002 on CD which presumably might also work. I'm not saying Outlook 2000 won't work, it might have just been something screwy in my configuration.
Guest John.medhurst Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Ok, thanks for the suggestion - I'll try that now and post my reply telling how I got on....
Guest John.medhurst Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Right I tried what the helpful Monkey suggested, but it appears these functions are not present in Outlook 2000, and my MPX200 very kindly came with Outlook 2000 on the CD, so I'll try and find a more recent version elsewhere... D'oh.... Not posted from my SmartPhone!
