reason for phantom sms?

Dunno if this is the only reason, but I've noticed that with some skins the phantom sms thing seems to happen when I import messages from the sim and then delete the contents of my inbox folder without them all as read/reading them all.

Anyone got any other reasons for why it happens?

I do not think anyone has ever posted a difinitive reason for the phantom SMS
