Guest Hax Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 One of the great thing's I've liked about my SPV's is the MSN functionality that you get with it and the way you can start up MSN and then lock the keypad and stick your phone into your pocket. Then, if anyone wants you, you get a ring/vibration just like for an SMS. However, since applying the latest update (and finally getting GPRS to work - it required a further hard reset) I've now discovered that locking the keypad disconnects you from GPRS!!!! I'm sorry - but I find this completely stupid. Don't Orange think about these issues before releasing the updates? It seems that everytime they fix something - they break something else. As a software engineer, I am well aware of the trials and tribulations involved with maintaining and testing software - but something as big as this, crippling one of the best (for me) parts of functionality of this phone is just ludicrous. Orange - you really need to wake up and think about what your users want. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong by one of you posting and pointing out a setting somewhere that I've missed.... I really hope that's the case. Hax
Guest psneddon Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I agree MS should leave things alone when they are working but alot of people did ask for this feature as it was how you could disconnect GPRS with the original SPV..... Anyway To lock the phone without disconnecting just press the power button and choose keylock from the menu (or press 3). Paul
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Part of the "correct" GPRS implementation is that pressing the hangup key will disconnect GPRS. You're not using the hold down hangup shortcut to lock your keypad are you?
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I could be wrong, but someone else told me that GPRS times out and disconnects itself now :? If that's true then it really defeats the object of MSN :?:
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 In settings data connections, choose menu-options It's got an idle disconnect timeout. If this is set to NEVER then GPRS should stay connected until you explicitly disconnect it via the hangup button. That's the theory anyway.

Well on Internet Explorer, mine is now disconnecting EVERY TIME A PAGE FINISHES LOADING  WTF!!!??? My settings are correct, but I'll just try my 3rd Hard Reset in 3 days!!!
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 A hard reset has cured my problem of GPRS disconnecting after every page has loaded :?
Guest Hax Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Hmmm...... When I was locking the keypad last night, I tried using Paul's method of locking via the power key menu (first thing I thought of after finding the hang-up key killed the connection) - and that also closed my GPRS connecting. Just tried again though and now it does leave the connection open.... Now, nothing's changed apart from the phone crashing when I accidentally put it into flight mode :s /me scratches head in bemusment Hax Posted from my SmartPhone!

Both, they SEEM to do the same thing....I guess "Clear Storage" is a more user friendly way of resetting?

If that's true then it really defeats the object of MSN :?: Yep! they WERE right  Even if you've got idle time set to "None" it NOW disconnects itself after a while  (I'm not sure how long it takes but it's well under 30 minutes)
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 having mine set to none, disconnects gprs striaght after ie finishes loading the page!

Guest g_lined Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Although I do like the new upgrade, I have to agree that it's now causing me sigificant problems when I use MSN. Now, you could say this is my problem - I disagree - but since the hangup button is between the right action and the backup key which are both used a lot during MSN, I think it's inevitable that the hangup key's going to be pressed. And do you want that when you're talking to your friends? No. It's very annoying and it wipes your history. In my opinion it's a big shame and it's unfortunate there seems nothing you can do about it.
