Guest kevlar Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Please list the bugs you've noticed post update. I'll get us started; Phone locking up - this has happened to me 3 times in the first 24 hours since update. Had to pull battery. Didn't seem to be doing anything unusuall, 1 time I was just trying to open the games folder, another time I was altering home screen settings. SD card not visible in active sync, causing as to lock up when trying to view contents. Sound quiality - I prefered it before, my phone only buzzed occaisionally, just removing all bass and turning the volume down is a half arsed fix. To be fair they probably couldn't tackle it any other way, but they should have recalled the phones and fitted a better quality speaker in the first place, they must have had many calls about sound quality shortly after launch. Battery life - this honestly seems barely improved to me. General speed - I don't think my phone is as responsive as before. Kevlar
Guest Foxy2k Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 The update did not fix the problem with Dual Layer SD cards. I purchased a viking 256mb and I still get problems. I'm getting an external writer soon so I'll see if it works after formatting!
Guest markdotpeters5 Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 To start with my phone felt less reponsive, but it's got better since. lord knows why. I haven't noticed a significant difference in either battery life or bluetooth capability. I have yet to try a BT headset that works properly from over a metre away.
Guest jimbouk Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Bluetooth headset seems to disconnect mid call - leaving my callers hearing me over the standard microphone, but i cannot hear them - so they usuaull hear me swearing about the phone. Took ages to get bluetooth activesync working again but is seems fine now. I LOVE THE CLEAR TYPE FONT!
Guest jimbouk Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 and whilst i have got the keyboard working, you can't use it to type in contacts names whilst searching for who to send an sms to!!! (It will type the content of the message though!
Guest skyrine Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Since the update my phone no longer picks up an incomming call on 'auto answer'. i used to have the headset profile auto answer after 4 seconds or so, now i have to press accept on the handset !!  :x
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 phone locks up/thinks for ages(unplug card or battery to cure) after taking a picture when it's set to save it to the SD card, happens if you've not used the phone in a while, say first thing in the morning. Can't allocate tones to the card via regedit, defaults if left for periods of time. Something to do with the way it turns off the card slot(probably to save power) Found a program in the windows folder called SDCARDBusControl.exe.
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 If your phone is locking up it "may" be because you are using ringtones from SD card.
Guest Pulse Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 My battery life is worse I beleive, or at best, the same as before. My video recording is a great upset, as I use it all the time, and now it is rendered useless! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Pulse Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Also, forgot to mention, my phone is now noticably less responsive. Grr, Orange you pack of idiots! Do something right for once! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest kevlar Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Bluetooth headset seems to disconnect mid call - leaving my callers hearing me over the standard microphone, but i cannot hear them - so they usuaull hear me swearing about the phoneFunny you should say that, that happened to me exactly as you described on the way to work last night. I thought maybe my battery was low in the headset but it seems fine. Took ages to get bluetooth activesync working again but is seems fine now How did you manage it? I haven't yet! Kevlar
Guest jimbouk Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Not 100% sure what it was that cured the activesync - but a combination of starting the serial service on phone, deleting partnership, deleting bonding, and then starting all over again with bonding, created partnership with USB cradle and then disconnected and used BT. Very worried about the headset switching off mid -call - with a full battery. Its almost as if the phone is sending it a "power off" signal????? Happened again this morning!
Guest pride Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I expect this bug is due to the SD card & battery life "solution" but I frequently have to take my SD card out and plug it back in before I can access programs on it. Damn annoying- especially when I have midnight's excellent Borg keypad sounds on it. And don't even mention the problems with GNUBOY not finding roms on the SD card or crashing before it has loaded a rom into memory as the "fix" kicks back in. Also notice that I am having to remove the battery more often to unlock the thing. Any chance I could be doing something wrong or is this something I am going to have to put up with until the next "bug fix" from orange.
Guest tony_man Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Install went well! 2.5 days after install : I reckon battery life seems about the same or less, I get about 24 hours with minimal use! No SD card/ no BT! Cleartype - should have a on/off switch! Havn't had a lock up, but then, I don't use the SD card at present! can't see any real benefit! So it really wasn't much use install this update! The amount of hassle involved in reinstalling/rebuilding my phone's settings is a piss poor situation- Orange backup only does half a job- which is crap! I think they only added that functionality to improve GPRS sales! is there a roll back option? is this what they call dumbing down? I think orange may get more ground out of developing a better battery! (and giving it free to all those that they conned into believing they could get three days out of a charge-up) Gosh Monday mornings ----- I am soo cynical! BTW: my new Krusell case is lovely!
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 This may be a bug! When i got a text today, i tried to reply to it by the 'reply to sender' option. The phone was failing to send the text and was putting it in drafts folder. No matter how i input the phone number, it would send. I then tried a new message to the sender and it worked fine. So the reply to sender option doesn't work, you have to start a new message and enter the contact in. Can someone else confirm this. Really annoying this is.
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I just tried this, and it worked fine, so I guess it was just one of those things :? I've heard of this happening when the other person has a Nokia and it's set to "reply via same centre" (or something like that, I can't remember exactly what the setting is  )
Guest Bonzo Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 It also used to happen some time ago when the person U were replying to was on PAYG tarrif with certain providers!!!
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 when you tried the reply to sender, was the number of the contact your were replying to set as the mobile number hense the sms number in the the contact. The number i am trying to reply to is a number set as work number in the contact.
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 This may be a bug! Â When i got a text today, i tried to reply to it by the 'reply to sender' option. The phone was failing to send the text and was putting it in drafts folder. No matter how i input the phone number, it would send. I then tried a new message to the sender and it worked fine I've had that problem with an e=mail the other day ON the up side, my battery used to last 2 days with light to medium use, it's been on for over 21.5 hours and it's down to 73% with an alarm this moring, about 10 mins of calls and the occasional check of the battery.
Guest jbrare Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Updated mi E200 on Friday, new problems listed below (I dont know any workarounds for them) Intermittent choppy playback of MP3's in media player. Quiet call volume on occasion (Most time it's OK tho) Totally inaudible sound on video recordings No sound attach/playback in MMS's (same before update also, annoys me tho!!) Battery life not much better When accessing the SDCard to insert a pic in MMS for example, the "egg timer" pops up and wont go away until after a power off/power on. Doesn't happen all the time but so far it's happened too often. These are the things that bother me the most. The other things I can live with for now. JB
Guest kevlar Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 After using for a couple of days since updating it looks like my battery life is considerably worse!! :x Kevlar
Guest Rusty Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Well so far i'm impressed by the battery life, but this is more than outweighed by the fact that i am having to reset the phone by removing the battery, at least 3-4 times per day due to the SD card access totally locking the phone up (this being the same 256mb SanDisk card that has worked fine for the last year in my original SPV and for the last 2 months in my E200). I'm just about phone Orange and see what they have to say, i am now on my fourth handset and this update just compounds my frustration with the E200. This phone is brilliant on paper, unfortunately Orange don't seem to be able to translate any of this promise into serviceable phone. I'm at the point now where if they don't offer me something suitable as a replacement (NOT another E200 which will certainly be plagued with the same faults), then my tariff will be dropped to the minimum and this phone is off on Ebay, where it should fetch more than enough to pay my account off and i can get a decent phone from somebody else  Suggestions for a new phone more than welcome :) i have been leaning towards the XDAII from O2, but still open to ideas.
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Are you running ringtones from your SD card?
Guest Rusty Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Nope, all ringtones are bog standard stuff that came with the phone, no new ones added yet. I am basically running 2 games from my SD card (WinMine and FullHandCasino) and my pics from camera are stored on SD card. The handset sometimes works, sometimes locks up when i try to either play one of the games, access the SD card using Smart Explorer and accessing SD card over ActiveSync. Taking the phone out of the case to remove the battery is becoming something of a chore :)
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Hmm. I have the same SD card as you, and I don't have any problems. My phone will lock up though if I run ringtones off the SD card using Joyo Personaliser, but you have said you are not. Hmm...
