.CAB provisioning by using WSB instead of HTTP

HI Guys,

I am currently working on a project that requires .CAB downloads over WSP instead of HTTP.

When connecting to something like:

"HTTP://www.xyz.com/Install.cab" it works fine

but when connecting to something like

"WSP://www.xyz.com/Install.cab" I get an HTTP-406 Error.

Is there anyone out there who can succesfully download and install a .CAB by using the WSP:// in their URI ???

Please help, as I am almost bashing our Gateway guys...

Cheers,

On the SPV, the Wireless Session Protocol means you are connected via the WAP proxy server. I think you will need to bypass the server if you want to stream files to the SPV.

Have you tried deleting the proxy connection.

BTW Why does it have to be WSP ?

No-Go... But you are correct, I want to download a .CAB through the WAP-Gateway, thats the whole point.. Why doesnt it work ??

>>>BTW Why does it have to be WSP ?

My project needs a connection to a billing platform at the operator.. This is only allowed through the WAP-Gateway..

Ahh OK

BTW I think I should have added : Edit GPRS connection for the WAP APN and make 'Points to WAP Network'. Alternatively keep as 'Points to: The Internet' and make The Internet Connection = WAP APN.

It's just that I can download files with the WAP APN (- WAP proxy) using HTTP although I suspect this is not what you are looking for.

Excellent !!!!

>>> This was excactly what I wanted to know, only I didnt formulate it correctly enough (I used the word WSP instead).

Martin... I would like to ask you one favor if possible.

I know it maybe much to ask but could you please try to Go to the following link using the SPV:

wsp://www.centacto.com/files/smartris.cab

I am really curious if this works on your phone... If so.. I know where my problem lies.

Thanks,

edge

Accessing it from my smartphone, it downloads using either APN but just displays the content as characters - I get the exactly the same thing from many other sites. i.e. I can download files (including CABS) from www.smartphone2000.com but not www.modaco.com

I think it has something to do with the server not supporting it - probably bit streaming.

Can you just make one WSB:// request to a CAB here on MoDaCo and tell me if it works correctly ?

I will ask the admin, what MIME-TYPE he used for setting up his server.

Thanks a MiLLiOn !!!!

Hi edge

Sorry for delay - had to nip out for tonights BEER and VID :)

Also I just realised that the address had WSP. The test I did above was without the proxy server so I tried again.

Used O2 proxy first - proved useless as it won't allow me to access anything thats not WML ie MoDaCo

The Orange proxy gave me access to MoDaCo and when clicked on your link i got "Your client is not allowed to access the requested object".

Couldn't try file download from MoDaCo as I can't log in - suspect no cookies via proxy ? Went to Smartphone France site instead and clicked on download homescreen and got the same access error.

Looks like any attempt at download is being blocked by these proxy servers

Too Bad, but so much thanks for trying your best anyway !

At Orange NL, we got no blocking issue's with proxies not allowing service (so full-axx over the Net, which is very nice indeed as they dont charge but flat fee of 6 Euro :) ... With the coming of WAP2.0 support, this means that HTML traffice over WAP APN is also Free ... ) and thats one of the reasons, why this service has going to be over WSP.

Okido.. I am back to my research...
