Guest alanclose Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 After reading through all the threads about the update I am in two minds about installing the upgrade. What would posters recommend?
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I've decided against it. I don't have Bluetooth / battery issues. I've just been to CustomCabbage to get a ClearType CAB and quite like it but I also like the option to revert to original font. The SD card problem (which I assume causes the lock-up problem) is my sticking point. However I would welcome anyone giving me a convincing reason to upgrade.
Guest top_evil Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 After E200 Upgrade: 1. I can't disable security using Disable Security prog. 2. When in settings/regional settings/locale/latvia I can't acces Date and Time anymore
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Right, I haven't installed it yet, and am kinda swinging towards upgrading. The thing is, I have no problems at the moment at all, e.g. the SD Card draining battery (I have very scientific details in my thread "battery report" in this, the E200 forum), I have no buzzing either. My battery life should be improved, but it sounds like I have more battery life than most of the people on this forum. I want to install the update, because, according to the manufacturer, it is exactly that, an update, and is designed to make my phone better. In most of the polls, the general consensus is that the upgrade should be installed. There are quite a few posts saying this is bad, that is bad. I'm thinking of the polls here, because I'm thinking, people who's phones have no problems aren't gonna talk about it as much as people who do have problems - people with problems are gonna shout out "this is wrong, this isn't working" etc, whereas people without problems will not have much to report, but these people are also participating in the polls, and as I said, most people like the update. That's a long sentence... I also want to update it for the ClearType - I mean, all it does is make the screen contents smooooooother, and less jaggedy, more like my monitor at home (CRT I think - the usual sized ones).
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I've decided I certainly won't today, like I was scheduled to, but I might do some other day...
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 You can have ClearType by downloading Pauls "Tweak" cab, with the added benefit of being able turn it off again :)
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 You can have ClearType by downloading Pauls "http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7695>tweak" cab, with the added benefit of being able turn it off again :) But... mine is fully locked. I think I'll unlock it without OTA, 'cos I just found it on this forum (in news section I think)!
Guest capt_janeway Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I've had no probs at all - apart from having to re-do the OTA and set up all my short cuts - I think it was a great update. But each to their own I guess
Guest drblow Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 If you had a buzzer, then yes, definately. If not, then I'd say there's no real big difference, & from some of the other problems rep[orted (none of which I have had thankfully) I'd steer clear of it TBH. I'm learning to like the cleartype tho! :)
