Guest midnight Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Thanks to an anonymous member for this tip off! MoDaCo Smartphone can exclusively reveal that the Sagem MY-S7 is going to be one of the first devices to feature the forthcoming 'Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition'. Basically a refresh of Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC and Smartphone (a la Windows 98 Second Edition), the new OS will offer a number of small tweaks to the base Windows Mobile 2003 OS. The new OS exhibits slightly tweaked menu structures and wording in the core applications to enhance usability, for example MMS support is now more deeply rooted in the OS, 'Inbox' becomes 'Messaging' etc. A quick peek into the Sagem's 'About' screen shows that the new OS is based on the 4.21 CE kernel, a minor update from the 4.20 kernel used in existing Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone devices. Oh, and last of all, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Smartphone exhibits a funky little 'Windows' logo on the Start key... :)
Guest davo141 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 still want to know if i will be able to update my e200 to the latest OS :S
Guest teddyen66 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 yeah that would be nice to know ;-) Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 One would hope so, but then again... 2003 second edition is not a major leap. We're not talking people with 2002 devices who can't run .Net code here. Hopefully the 2003 second edition will include fixed t9 etc so hopefully orange will move to it purely from a bug fixing point of view.
Guest smeg36 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I want to know if I will be able to get a free upgrade for the Compal like it got for 2002 to 2003! That would be sweet.
Guest p2daz Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 having just moved on from the MX-Y6 this should be a nice phone,i was perfectly happy with it but it lacked all the features you get with a smartphone, anybody any clue as to when it will be available?
Guest mattscholey Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Might be a consideration now. Next phone mpx220 v p900 and possibly v this. Matt
Guest davo141 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Might be a consideration now. Next phone mpx220 v p900 and possibly v this. Matt i have a p900 and p800, both are amazing! i want to play with the mpx220 once it comes out
Guest dmeineck Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 If the second edition included the missing handsfree profile in bluetooth then i'm sure orange may consider offering it as a free update for the e200 as that would allow them to sell more car kits and headsets etc with the device.
Guest markhammill Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I don't think anyone will agree with me, but I don't like the little windows logo. It completely ruins the nicely laid out and simple look of the on screen buttons
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Hmm, Id agree with you on that one too - however if it fixes a few more problems then WM2003SE is surely got to be a hit with the Sagem. Shame the E200 update is now out :)
Guest markhammill Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Yeah as far as the rest of the update goes I'm deffinatelly looking forward to, there usually worth it.
Guest [email protected] Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 They're gradually turning the left softkey into a desktop-like start menu. Renaming it from "Programs" to "Start" in WM2003 and adding the flag in WM2003SE.
