Guest Simon Desser Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 For the last couple of days, I've not been able to SEND any emails using smtp.orange.net. Receiving is fine (going through different servers) but I can't send, and I've tried it on two totally different phones :? Anyone else having problems? I WILL ring Orange but I don't really want to put myself in a bad mood for the rest of the day
Guest Coucou Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I've had problems too, tried sending an e-mail last night and couldn't, now I can't even sign on on the internet!
Guest PhilA Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Same here - I tried to send some e-mails from a Hotel on Sunday via GPRS and got an error that authentication was required. I set up my mail program to authenticate using my Orange.Net account details, and it seemed better in as much as the send would start, but it always timed out before the send was complete
Guest mcwarre Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Same here. Both outlook, phone and web email all down........... I can't even receive..........
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I was on to Orange about it on Sunday morning. They sent my email settings by SMS but the problem remained ; all emails were bounced with an "Invalid Recipient Address" message - bogus error as usual, perfectly good addresses. Have emailed them and waiting reply.
Guest mcwarre Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Just tried listening to emails through answer phone. System down as well. Did anyone accessing emails through the web get the warning pop-up about bogus emails from apparently orange support addresses? Maybe they have had their email server virus attacked???
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I tried to get into my Inbox via the O website but it wouldn't log me in. My first response from O : "In order to assist you further with sending emails from your phone, please can you reply to this mail advising us of the make and model of phone you are using and your Orange phone number." Surely this is irrelevant ? "I can confirm that we are aware of the difficulties you describe and our engineers are currently looking into this matter. I trust it will be resolved in due course. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused." Seems to confirm earlier posts. Strange how we're all getting different symptoms :?
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Cheers guys :) For a minute I thought my E200 was playing up
Guest M@rkC Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Mine no worky either - I've not been able to access my emails on orange.net since doing the ROM update on Saturday......not sure if it's connected (no pun intended!) or just coincidence??? When attempting to send/receive email from the phone, it says "Connecting...", the little GPRS icon appears top right.....and that's it, no matter how long you leave it. Have tried restarting the phone but that doesn't help. So, I'm back in the office today and have tried accessing via the orange.net website....that's not working either. No helpful error messages or dummy HTML page that explains why, just a 404 error (The page you have requested cannot be displayed)...Duh, no s*** sherlock.. Think I may phone orange.net support on their premium priced unhelpful number (438 if anyone else wants to 'ave a go). Will re-post if/when I find anything out.
Guest mcwarre Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Stu, Looks like you are just getting standard replies.... It doesn't take a genius (Orange) to figure out that if: You can't get mail on your phone and You can't get mail on your PC via Outlook and You can't get mail via the Internet web site and You can't get mail via your answerphone Then: The email system is down, not my phone & Outlook & Web site & answerphone! Jesus H Christ!
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I haven't upgraded so that is a red herring. I wouldn't bother phoning them as they're aware of the problem and are unlikely to tell you anything of interest. Of course, if you're using your office phone then sod the charges and try it ! :)
Guest Coucou Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 And I'm on SPV Original. It's probably to do with the volume of virus e-mails or something, maybe they're having to do a scan. I've received loads, even though I block sender every time.
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Are you getting spam on your orange.net account ? I haven't had any ever.
Guest stevewright Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I've had a few viruses, but no spam. Ever.
Guest mcwarre Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Yep, Been receiving a lot of spam containing viruses recently. Over the last 3 weeks it has been very bad. I even take to checking mail on the web forst before I download onto PC to delete viruses....
Guest Coucou Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Not too much spam, but I have had some, apparently I've signed up to lots of blind dates, I've inherited a fortune of a nigerian oil tycoon and I can make my webpage better for google. Lots of virus stuff though, well I say lots but it's prob not more than 5 a day.
Guest stevewright Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 mcwarre (and others): I use Outlook and the IMAP server to check my email. That way I can view the header and delete it before viewing it. Easier than typing stuff into a webpage. Plus, email gets delivered super speedy. When the server's up that is ;-)
Guest shimmip Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I'm getting the invalid recipient message too using an MPx200. I was forced into a hard reset last week and thought it might be that but the timing was wrong - my reset was on Monday and e-mail was working fine on Friday. Didn't try mailing again from my phone again till Monday morning so the problem (certainly with the Orange mail server) cropped up over the weekend. I get incoming mails with no difficulties, but then I don't use Orange for incoming mail. ANyone had any joy on this yet? As with other folk, I'd ring Orange but I KNOW that on technical issues like this it'd pretty much be a waste of time.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 E100 - Freeserve e-mail, stmp.orange.net - no problems so far! :?:
Guest shimmip Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Because the help desk seems fixated on handsets and this is clearly something centralised and technical, I've sent a mail detailing the problem to a guessed address: [email protected] - it's not bounced yet! ;-) If anyone has any suggestions for a real address to send to (or even better a solution). please let me know. Guest ferret Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I remember having an error on the website when sending emails and it said [email protected] Try that, same error here by the way, typical, I sign up to textamerica and then their server goes AWOL
Guest ferret Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I can't even get to the login page on the O website now
Guest M@rkC Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I emailed a mate who works for Orange; he said that the orange.net stuff is dealt with by OMO (Orange Mobile Operations  - you can make your own interpretation up!). Even as an employee he can find out nothing more than us mere mortals (less probably, since no-one wants to talk to OMO!).... Speaking to Orange Data Support last night, I was moved to find out that "Orange are aware of the problem with one of the mail servers, but we're not allowed to estimate when the problem will be resolved"....jeez, do these people read from a sheet or something??? Managed to connect to my orange.net email from my phone this morning and got all my mail downloaded; still no joy with the sending though - that still comes up with "Invalid recipient" (and I know I'm not "Invalid" - plenty of other things for sure, just not invalid!)
