Guest AaronSoup Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Surely thiis should be moved to "News"..... Anyways: Just been reading a press release saying htc are working on a new phone for the launch of orange's upcoming 3g network. the network is to be released in q3 of this year and other operators working on 3g phones for orange include alcatel nokia and motorola. Hopefully we'll be seeing three g orange spv300 this september! the only thing i'm looking forward to is the prospect of a high speed net connection (3g is 378kbps) and hopefully a megapixel camera. They are currently testing the 3g network in 4 parts of France (being a french comany and all). They will be doing a 4000 peron test in various places in the uk including London and Manchester.. No idea how to put my name forward for beta testing,,,, In other 3g news, Vodafone are releasing a 3g data card for notebook pc's offering connection speeds of up to 320kbs.... Vodafone are expected to offer a Windows smartphone as part of their initial 3g lineup due this Christmas period. o2 are to initially offer an the nokia 3600 & an as yet unspecified PDA unit (XDA 3???) as their 3g units. O2 are rolling out 3g this christmas period also. All 3 companies are expecting initial takeup to be slow, due to the lack of public interest. 02 is going to fade out 2g services to the bare minimum by Christmas 2005, expect the other operators to follow suit soon after... Looks like 3g will be the only option available come mid 2006.... Source: Various Press Releases Aaron
Guest squall Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Assume this is one of the 'various' press releases - trouble is it doesnt state the next HTC smartphone device will come complete with 3g - although i have heard it will.
Guest AaronSoup Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 No it was on an Orange 3g press release... Look under Orange: Press it should be there, although this was in financial times i think (god knows i'm no business man but i'm pretty sure thats the pink one)... It didn't state SPV, but it did state HTC were working on a phone for the 3g launch, so I put the 2 together and came to my conclusion :)
