Guest willstyles Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Hey there, I have a friend that is stopping through the UK on the way back to Canada, and I was going to get her to pick me up a new phone since our technology is far behind europes when it comes to phones. Since I know Motorola can be easily unlocked, how much is the MPX200, V500, V600 in the UK without a plan or contract? Any help would be awsome. Also if any other companies with flip phones can be unlocked let me know. Im looking for the best flip phone from the UK. THANKS! :)
Guest squall Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 trouble is there are no shops which sell phones without plans - you really have to look to the internet.
Guest willstyles Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 trouble is there are no shops which sell phones without plans - you really have to look to the internet. So I cant just walk into a shop and pay for the phone and say im going to activate the plan later? Here in Canada and in the US you can just buy the phone at the dealer for a more expensive price without a plan. If you cant do that, then are there any 3rd party stores in the UK that sell cell phones?
Guest squall Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 you can do that with some phones in the uk - the cheaper models. you then pay for the calls as you make them rather than paying for them monthly. However you cannot do this with any smartphone, there is no store that sells them without signing up to a 12 month contract.
Guest Coucou Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Oh yes there are, just not phone dealers! There's an electronics shop near me which sells the odd phone. That's the sort of place you need :) Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest squall Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 chances of finding one with a smartphone for sale?....
Guest Coucou Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 I'll have a look. They've had pretty high end phones before now. Not promising mind, but they may take orders. And don't phones4u advertise prices without sim? or not for all phones? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest squall Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 phones4u - not for all phones - and ive yet to see them selling a smartphone on a normal contract
Guest jamesg Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 2nd hand, but CEX (Computer Exchange) have loads of smart and flip phones.
Guest Taoski Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 I second that - CEX always have lots of 2nd hand phones for sale! Including ALL the UK smartphone models when i was there last week! (Brum store)
Guest squall Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 ive not heard of this place before (im a northener) do they have a website?
Guest Taoski Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 http://www.cex.co.uk/  They even have the E100 listed on their homepage - 2nd hand with 12mths warranty for £150 or an MPX200 for £200 Not sure how that stands up against other prices elsewhere though.
Guest rogerbates Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 Surely they all sell sim free phones? i was going to get a sim free spv rather that change networks but the £500 price tag made me reconsider. They had a list in some booklet of all the phones and their prices sim free. Even the 'cheaper' phones were bloody expensive. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Taoski Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 As far as i know all the phones are second hand - so they will be totally SIM free. They are not on contract or anything...
