Guest davesareen Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Hi, Recently acquired second hand Orange SPV. The phone was already network unlocked so my Vodafone SIM works fine. Went to Orange website and performed app un-locking.....all is well. Then read plenty of posts RE: ROM upgrading to UK V1.6. I am a little nervous about upgrading as there seems to be some missleading info. Please could someone answer the following... 1. Does the firmware upgrade need to be run from a PC running XP/NT and not '98 or ME? 2. Does the update need to be run whilst the phone is in the 'canary' screen? 3. Once upgraded will I have to re-run both network & app unlocking? Regards.
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 :?: You are talking about the original SPV or the E100 ? 1. I thought yes, but someone has just posted that he ran the ROM upgrade for the E200 from a Win98 PC and it worked. You could try it but I've no idea what the issues would be. 2. No, just the usual homescreen. 3. Network unlocking is unaffected but you will have to run the application unlock again. It's an excellent upgrade BTW, well worth it :)
Guest davesareen Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Hi Disco Stu, Thanks very much for the reply & info.......I shall look for more posts RE: the Win'98/ME PC issue..... Kind regards M8 :) oops forget to reply on the phone version.....I have an original SPV.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I would always advise that ANY update should be run from the canary screen that way you will be sure you do not have any apps etc running in the background that may cause a problem.
