Exit a Application on a Smartphone ???

What is the Proper way to exit a Application on a Smartphone?

Whenever I use for example Contact and leave it with the back key I can still see the Application running in Taskmanager and using Memory. Is there no Extit function like in other applications or do I have to kill it manually to get rid of it?

Cheers

Not 100% sure but my unserstanding is as follows:

MS say you can't have an exit function on a smartphone app.

The only way to exit it is to kill it using task manager but if the OS needs the resource it auto kills other apps running in the background.

I'm sure someone else can give a better answer :!:

I just use task manager all the time. Load it up, left soft key, 4... Simple..

Even better, XBar 2.0. Press and hold the action button. A window will popup with all the running programs so all you have to do is press the back key to exit the program you've selected.

MS reasoning behind not having an exit option on apps is that they belive that when they are not being used apps should sit in the background without using cpu time.

Then the next time the apps is called for it should load faster etc.

I understand the reasoning behind apps opening quicker, and all that, but it would be good for the user to have a choice in the methods available for the use of their smartphone. I feel I am experienced enough to be able to control the way in which my phone handles it's resources, and therefore I'd like more control over how it implements task based operations (ie. I want to watch a video but have to restart the phone in order to free up enough memory for a stutterless viewing with the default OS guidelines). Thankfully there are a lot of third party apps out there which allow the user to have control over the memory (and other) states of the phone (which I am eternally grateful). I understand that the idea behind GUI driven technology is not burdening the user with lower level OS mechanics but I feel that on the simple matter of whether a program should take up resources is an easy concept for a Smartphone user to grasp and therefore the choice should be given.

Not eveyone is stupid.
