Hi, just recently I've had my Xphone turn off on me about 4 times now, once when it was charging, twice when I was speaking with the headset on, and then again just talking on the phone, it just turned itself off. Is this a known issue? I searched the forums, but there were too many search results for "phone turns off" . It's really annoying to talk to someone and then the phone just turns off by itself. Is this a known bug, or is it my handset?

Has happened with me before whilst talking - most annoying but I dont think it is a common bug. I have resorted to pressing the joystick continually so it doesnt "hibernate" when making important calls! I feel it is related to the battery - not how well charged it is but something else? The other way I have found to resolve it is to keep the backlight on constantly but this drains the battery very quickly!

This also happens to me with my xphone. I think it has something to do with the RF (radio) section of the phone. it seems to occur only in one section of the house also so may be a electromagnetic interference issue. anyone else got any solutions to this?

Hello,

I could experience the same with *ALL* my previous mobile phones (various Nokia, Siemens and Ericsson makes) as well as with my new Qtek 8080.

No idea what caused this.

I can just say that whenever the software routines continuosly working in the background and e.g. checking the presence and functionality of the SIM Card cannot detect the presence of the SIM Card the phone is switching itself off.

This can e.g. be caused either by a SIM Card which is nor firmly inserted in the phone, by dusty contact pins or even a crashing routine which does not report the presence of the SIM Card within a predefined interval.

Of course there may be other reasons which I do not know. But I can confirm that the above-mentioned effects can cause the phone switch off.

Regards

G

Yes same with me - it seems to happen only in certain areas - for me the golf driving range is the worst!!

Well the phone randomly locks up on me quite a bit more than what i'm experiencing, it hasn't turned off on me though. It does get annoying if it just turns off, and it's not near any metal objects, nor would it be the SIM card.

It doesn't necessarily have to be near large metal objects. It's a matter of signal availability and disruption. Being near large metal objects just causes the phone to lockup in a more predictable manner (like 100%).

sorry, I meant it actually does turn off on me. It did so again before. Hmmmm, does anyone know how to contact O2 directly or through email? I can't seem to find how to contact them on their site. I've tried to contact them through their contact page but they haven't gotten back to me.

Yes it completely turns off on me as well - that is what I am talking about also - although it has "frozen up" once or twice as well. Like I said I find if I keep the backlight on it will not switch off itself during a call.

Have you guys/gals sorted this problem out yet?

I returned my phone to O2 (hong kong) and they just reburnt the ROM.

Ive had it back for 3 days now and it has turned off on me during conversations three times now.

I'm going to return it again on monday. any comments to any solutions?

i have tried using the phone in Australia with a Australian SIM and had the same problem.

I have also roamed in HK (with a different carrier) with the australian sim with the same problem.

Therefore I dont think it is network/carrier related.

Thanks in advance.

I still have the problem occasionally - keeping the backlight permanently on at the expense of a rapidly draining battery seems to resolve it.
