Guest MartynW Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 Hi All, I've just upgraded to the E200 from an Ericsson T68i yesterday, my first impressions of the E200 were quite good, but I'm beginning to find a number of annoyances already. I'd appreciate it if anybody has any suggestions for the below points, it might be that there are some hidden settings that I've not found, or that there are third party applications that will do the trick. I did try to search the forum, but it doesn't appear to be working (says something like "can't insert search results"). 1) Why is there a separate application (CallerID) for assigning photos to contacts? I'd have thought that this should have been standard in the "Contacts" feature. It's a bit of a pain to have to switch back and forth. 2) In the "CallerID" application you can assign contacts to groups, and then add a photo for the group. Is there a way to assign a ring tone to a group? On the T68i this was easy to do and allowed you to have different tones for friends, family, work etc. 3) On the T68i you could set the phone to only accept calls from specific groups of contacts, this was useful as it allowed you to only accept calls from friends & family for example if you didn't want to be disturbed. Is this possible on the E200? 4) When the phone makes a GPRS call, there doesn't seem to be any obvious way of disconnecting afterwards. Hanging up doesn't do anything, the little "G" symbol still remains in the top right of the display. I know that with GPRS you only pay for data transferred, but this IS a Microsoft OS, and I'm paranoid that it's going to be doing something in the background to run up my bill. 5) There doesn't seem to be any menu shortcuts? Unless I'm blind of course. On the T68i you could pretty much hit any menu / application by using the menu key followed by a number. That's all for now, thanks in advance for any hints! Martyn
Guest ferret Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 (1) It is a pain  (2) Not sure - don't use it (3) Yes but you need a third party app (not free) called smartfilter IDentify allows you to block calls but only on an idividual basis. (4) Keep the home key down and select disconnect GPRS, however if you update the ROM the hang up key now disconnects. (5) You can hit start then the number next to the app (9 for next page, 0 for previous page). Or you can hit menu then assign speed dial which will open the app from the homescreen (you can edit and modify under accessories). Welcome to the site by the way :)
Guest FRiC Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 The search is broken. If you get the couldn't insert search results page, just refresh your browser until it works. The search engine isn't particularly good though... Menu shortcuts on the Smartphone works differently from other phones. Because of the way the phone multitasks, you can't always quickly press number keys to go to your menu selection... however, you can assign any app to a "speed dial number" and just press the number from the home screen.
Guest ferret Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 you can't always quickly press number keys to go to your menu selection... Am I missing something here? I have pocket TV as the third menu item on the second page and I've always been allowed to hit start, 9, 3 and pocket tv opens.

I have Pocket TV as the third menu item on the second page and I've always been allowed to hit start, 9, 3 and Pocket TV opens. That's only if you do it slowly, or wait for the second page to show before pressing 3. If you do it quickly enough, you'll get item 3 on the first page, cause the phone hasn't displayed the second page yet! On every other phone, there's some buffering so if you're familiar with the interface you can quickly go through the menu blindly without waiting for each screen to show. Doesn't work that way on the Smartphone.
