Anyone care what I think? :-)

I've long been considering posting 'Editorials' in the news section, but have resisted up to now as some sites are known for their 'editorial' content.

The kind of thing i'm talking about is generally 'conversation starters' on a particular topic.

An example of this would be a comment on the news Sagem is releasing a Smartphone, about how this is likely to impact the market, how Smartphone needs to move mainstream etc. etc., and then a continuing thread on the subject.

The question is, if I (and potentially nominated members of my team), were to do this, would you guys find it valuable?

Bet now!

Yes, I'd find it very useful ; especially if you were to translate industry announcements into plain English  :)

Yup v.useful, you have got expertise let us benefit from it and like said, would be nice to read a laymans term version of stuff every now and again, some stories I can't to come back to until I have had a least a couple of cups of coffee :)

Surely MoDaCO is reaching out to the wider community and avoiding becoming a backwater for a bunch of geeks.

If it generates more discussion, and therefore more infomation being circulated to/between MoDaCo members, then I figure it's a good thing.

yeah good idea!

Those of us who sit in irc most of the time get the benifit of people like midnights and pauls opinions, would be good to see this open to everyone.

hmmm, my personal opinion is do them, definitely, but i'd prefer then not to clutter up the news, i think it would be cool to have a seperate section of the forum for your editorials :)

sounds like a good idea if it helps generate more discussions!

I also agree with Midnight, the way newspapers put editorials separate from the news is the way to do it, I'd like to think that the news section is pretty much impartial.

Sounds like a good idea but what is the score on news items? I have posted 2 recently and they never made it near the news section?

Where did you post them?

Did you alert a mod or newshound to them?

I remember seeing your posts regarding the car kits for the E200, however since there was no link/ picture / press release etc i did not copy to news.

Personally i aim to have an official /quotable source for all news items i post. I believe this cuts down on rumour and keeps the news as accurate as possible.

If you have any storys you feel should make it into news and haven't feel free to PM me and i will have a look. :)

Oh and news hounds cant actually move posts to the news forum.

I disagree with not mixing the editorials with news.

It would be nice to have a better front page portal where editorials and news live in harmony. Modaco is the best forum around filled with news and info out the wazoo.

Editorials and news on the front page would, IMO, classify it more and a legitimate "website" rather than a "forum site" which is the way it is always referred to as.

Besides....how many editorials can Paul write?? I doubt it will wash away the news.

I cant wait to see what's in store in the future of Modaco.

I'd like something more like this:

i think its a great idea

as long as your not going to use the patented msmobilenews style of poor grammer and spelling mistakes! (its the only thing that sets our site apart from the rest of them !)
