Oh gee.

This all doesn't really sound too good

While waiting for a "native" upgrade for the Qtek 8080 (no Orange phone) I meanwhile doubt if it will come within reasonable time and actually bring substantial improvements at all.

The findings one can read here rather tend to the bad then to the good and I incline to say they are changing from the bad to the worse (there is a striking word for it in German: "verschlimmbessern". No idea if there is any such counterpart in English.)

Seems as if HTC or Orange or maybe both are overemployed and not capable of providing an update fixing all those bugs known to us since the beginning within a robust (and fool-proof) installer shell.

From my experience with the iPAQs (3850, 3970, 5450, 5550) I have had, which are also manufactured by HTC, I can only say that all upgrades provided always fixed the (major) bugs and they worked if every advice on how to apply them was observed by the user.

But there is a MAJOR difference:

Whoever actually did the programming work, Hewlett-Packard (formerly Compaq) was the issuer (or "project owner") and they obviously approved the software before being made public.

After all they had to lose the reputation of a large IT vendor.

(Cynically one could ask now: Is there no reputation Orange or HTC has to lose :?

Even more typical:

There is no *manufacturer* website / support for neither the E200 nor the Qtek 8080.

I guess my next Smartphone will be from Motorola (unfortunately the Foma's from NTTDoCoMo doe not - yet? - work here in Europe).

Always was a Nokia user and didn't like Mot, but Nokia still does not offer an attractive Smartphone(like device) and I do not like the Symbian OS.

Motorola's customer support has improved during the past few years as they try to win back market shares (especially in Europe), maybe that's why.

And Motorola supports Bluetooth.

Your comments appreciated !

Best Regards
