Hi all,

First Ive gotta say what a fantastic forum! I have just upgraded to the SPVE200 and was worried I would be stuck without any good resource sites!

I have read through a couple of pages and am most impressed

Im on a Orange(UK) contract and am a little aprehensive with the whole phone based internet lark! I have a little understanding of WAP but still get confused between that and GPRS lol

Ive used a little WAP but only really for downloading tones.

Id like to get a bit more information about it as I would hopefully be using it a lot more to read emails and check a few sites now and again.

Am hoping you could answer a few questions for me and put me to ease :)

Do you have an option of using WAP or GPRS or are these phones GPRS specific?

Am I able to set up to receive such mail to my phone such as my AOL mail which I read thorugh the website (webmail)?

Ive read you can use your PCs internet connection to power the browser in your handset, do you incur charges from Orange for doing that?

My Main terminal is Laptop as I tend to travel a bit, how hard is it to use the BTooth/IR/USB connections to create a modem using the fone? I had great deals of problems using other makes.

Is it easy to swap connection settings between SIMs? I currently have a twin sim in my 7210, Orange contract and 02 PAYG, I can easily swap settings to make use of my free wap from 02.

Is a twin SIM availibe/compatible with the SPV? Ive not yet received my handset to try mine.

Thanks for your time

Welcome dude :)

The E200 contains WAP 2.0 software so you can access most WAP services.

The phone also has built in Internet applications like Internet Explorer and E-mail.

Both of the above require a data connection and this can can be either a 9.6K GSM data connection (Circuits Switched Data) or a GPRS connection (Packet switched Data). A GSM timeslot (also used for voice calls) is charged by the duration of the call whereas GPRS is charged only by the quantity of data transferred.

So it is possible to setup any of the following on the SPV.

WAP over the GSM network (dialup to WAP)

WAP over the GPRS network

Internet over the GSM network (dialup to ISP)

Internet over the GPRS network

GPRS is preferred as it gives higher data speeds and always-on-connection.

Am I able to set up to receive such mail to my phone such as my AOL mail which I read thorugh the website (webmail)?
The SPV can be setup to download documents from your E-mail account. You should be able to find the settings on this forum or call 156 (Orange).

You can use the PC connection by setting the SPV Internet connection to pass through. You will not be charged by the network provider whilst using the PC connection.

My Main terminal is Laptop as I tend to travel a bit, how hard is it to use the BTooth/IR/USB connections to create a modem using the fone? I had great deals of problems using other makes.

A modem driver is available for the SPV but it requires XP or WIN2000.

All three options should be available to you.

The phone would need to be unlocked before before transfering SIMS.

I did hear of a twin SIM for the SPV but it required cutting the SIM's to a reduced size - so the answer is not really.

Once the phone arrives have a look in the MoDaCo FAQ section for lots of useful information (first 48 hours is very helpful). Also the Search facility should find plenty of relevant topics but feel free to post in the Help and Advice section if you get stuck.

Hope you enjoy your new phone

Can you set up different connection 'profiles'? So I would have one with all the Orange settings and one with all the 02 settings so after Ive unlocked and changed sim I can easily swap to 02 settings or would I need to edit the settings everytime I change sim?

Thnaks again

This is an interesting thought and although I don't think anyone has done it yet, I don't think we are too far away from multi-user accounts on mobile phones. Handy for those who do standby/callout for work using a shared phone/laptop. It would enable the fat-cat managers to pin down the guy who runs up the biggest personal calls bill using the company mobile.

LOL

What's scary is that I'm presently on standbycallout and surfing MoDaCo on my phone which is company paid. Honestly.

You should take up tarrot card (or tea leaf) reading :)

Im not so much bothered by the multi-user whole phone accounts bit, but that would be cool! A proper log-in screen as well lol

More intrested in the inet side of things, its really the only things that change between sims for me.

Heres an example of my Twin-simed 8310, 02PAYG and OrangePAYG - settingse are easily changed like this -

Excuse the shaky low quality pics lol

Found out bloody Orange delivered my phone friday but noone was in! They shouldnt have told me it was coming monday then!!!

Cheers again:)

It's a little different than the WAP only phones as there are no single profiles to select. The SPV has data connections called Internet connection, Works connection, WAP connection and Secure WAP connection (& possibly MMS connection).

Basically you create a GPRS or dial-up connection and attach it the above data connections. In Addition to this you can also create proxy and VPN connections.

Note: You could create x number of GPRS or dialup connections but only one of these can be assigned to the Internet connection at any one time.
