MPx200 with Smartphone 2003 on eBay??

Hi all,

I'm a first time poster, and I want to say thanks to everyone for their valuable input. This is a great forum. I've been lurking around reading this forum for quite a while, but felt compelled to post on this topic.

I've been looking at eBay to purchase my first MPx200, and I came across this auction:

From what I've read here, there are some "unofficial" upgrades that may or may not actually exist. Do you think this guy if for real or is he just scamming people?

Thought could be a typo, then checked out the link. The guy or gal has obviously gone to hassle of screen shot. Either to stop all the "is it really running 2003?" questions, OR to have a better chance of pulling a fast one. Only prob I'd have with it is that if it breaks, you're fairly well screwed aren't you (?). Not a lot of +ve feedback on his profile though.....

hmmmm.... Id feel better if I saw a photo of the whole phone (with the info screen running) first, plus I cannot see the word motorola at the top too. That said it could be the real deal?!

Mmmmmmmmm. Says it has been flashed with 2003 version? AFAIK only developers ones have. Unless he obtained it from somewhere...

Doesn't say it works tho' and with zero feedback I would steer well clear.

One thing though, as soon as someone has a copy

more will leak out. But remember unless there is an

official release warranty will probably not be valid on

an mpx200 with 2003.

looks a bit dodgy to me...maybe he jsut took a screen of a e200 in the dark...

Thanks for the input. I had planned to stay clear of this deal because the guy didn't have much feedback, but I e-mailed him anyway to see what he had to say. I asked him if he had the ROM image and he said he didn't. So I asked how he got it done and he said his friend at Motorola flashed it for him. Sounds pretty fishy, just thought everyone would be interested. It looks like he might make some money off the deal if it goes through, it's at $250 as of right now.

looks like one of the screen shots they had on msmobiles actually! On second thoughts maybe not! however we do know that this ROM exsists they have been upgrading MPX200's to WM2003 at the MDC conference, seen on mpx200.org!

maybe you can edit the about info in the registry or something similar, but you never know, it may be genuine (yeah right)

This could be genuine, however id be very sceptical seeing as he has only 1 feedback. The 2003 update is officially only available to developers, but i know for a fact a few have been leaked.

As mentioned it has implications on the warranty. I wouldn't look to buy it.

As a side though im selling an mpx200 in the uk, but would post to the us for the right price - see the for sale section

There nothing strange about WM2003 on a MPx200. I've been running WM2003 on my MPx200 for a while now and it works like a charm :)

I would like to make a backup of the ROM but I don't know how?

BTW, is there someone out there with the swedish T9 dll file? I would be sooo gratefull for that. The unbranded WM2003 has all the Swedish letters but only the english T9..

so you mean everyone that had theirs upgraded to 2003 for free by Motorola at that conference (whatever its name was) were all developers?

2003 isn't a big deal. MANY people have them (not a majority of people) but more than several thousand so seeing them on eBay shouldn't surprise anyone.

i dont think it was at the conference. it think it was only for the testers and such that maybe sent it in on Moto's request. maybe it was? who knows? none of us went...i think.
