Hi,

Has anyone successfully used another ISP's mail settings other than Orange's......I have read many posts but nothing conclusive....

When I connect over GPRS or dial-up, the phone connects then prompts for my mail account password. Input password then it keeps asking for password and never moves past that stage!!!?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards :)

It should work if it supports POP3.

Are you sure the username and password are correct ?

Which E-mail provider are you trying to connect to ?

Hi Martin,

I have an account with 'Freenetname'....they give me full POP access.

Hi Mark 4130,

Thats exactly what I'm trying to do with my Vodafone AC. I get about 350 mins a month free!....but just can't seem to get email working :x

On this your pop name is what your email with your ISP is eg [email protected]. However, you must use smtp.orange.net to send no matter who your email is with.

Post your email settings and I will help...

Picked this information out of the freenetname site

Mail:

Your e-mail Address is [email protected]

Outgoing (SMTP) Mail server: smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk

Incoming (POP3) Mail Server: mail.freenetname.co.uk

Your POP3 Login: username

Your POP3 password is the same as your login password.

So the following should hopefully work on the SPV [-o:D

Hi Mcwarre, Hi Martin....

Thanks for the reply guys......there is one critical bit of info I have left out, please accept my humble aplogies. My SPV is unlocked & running on the Vodafone network.......soz......don't shout at me

Threfore, I guess the orange smtp mail settings wouldn't work?

Yours stupidly....

OK :)

Try smtp.vodafone.net or smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk as your outgoing mailserver and see if you can send E-mails.

Hi Martin,

I'll give a try now.........

Though the problem seems to be on accessing the mail account @ freenetname. I'll explain further....I have tried two connection methods. Method 1 is to use Vodafone GPRS (works fine for net surfing), this connects then repeats round a loop of requesting my mail account password. The second method is to use a dial up connection to freenetname. In this mode all I ever get is 'cannot place call' ?????

Regards.

Try using your PC connection and see if that works.

In data connections set Internet connection to Pass through.

Hi Martin,

your'e not gonna believe this......!...found an old post pertaing to 0845 dial up nos, the type I use for Freenetname. The post stated that if you preceed the Country code 44 with + and drop the trailing 0 from 0845 this will work!......as doubtful as I was I gave it a try.....well stone me it works!!!

Regards
