Guest Wesleyrpg Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 just out of curiosity anyone tried one of the Sandisk SD Wi-Fi cards in the phone? Does the card work with 2003 drivers or is there another issue that is stopping the card working? Thanx
Guest carlosp_uk Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 There was another thread about this somewhere on the forum I recall. And I think the general consensus was that NO it wouldn't work on the e200. But it would be bloody brilliant if it did eventually!!!
Guest Austin519 Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 Ah man, totally what I didn't want to hear :) Austin519
Guest t3dluke Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 I've posted on my site some news I got from sandisk about this.
Guest Wesleyrpg Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 i agree with you austin, thats one of the reasons i got the phone as i thought i'd be able to browse the web via wifi....ahh well still a great phone but where's the dial up bluetooth adaptor? I dont think Sandisk had anything to do with the driver development, i think they are using generic drivers that they were given when they bought the OEM product from Sychip ( http://www.sychip.com/wlan.htm ) I think Sychip are the ones we need to put the heat on.....i sent an email asking if they would consider it....maybe some of you guys could do the same thing....if they feel that there is enough interest in Smartphone 2003, i'm sure they will develop drivers for it.
Guest Wesleyrpg Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 just got an email back from sychip.....they ARE developing drivers! YAY!
Guest carlosp_uk Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 got an email back from sychip..... Can you post the email?
Guest Wesleyrpg Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 Here it is......i only edited out email addresses...... There is work under development. We will advise when we have a clearer idea regarding dates etc Navi -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Adam Mann [mailto:wesley] Sent: Wednesday, March 31, 2004 8:23 AM To: Miglani, Navi Subject: Microsoft Windows Smartphone 2003 drivers? hi, how are you? I currently own an I-mate Smartphone2 (which runs Windows Smartphone 2003) and was hoping that you will be developing drivers for your SD Wifi card (6060). I know drivers for Pocket PC 2003 are available, but apparently they aren't compatible with Smartphone 2003 edition. Do you develop any drivers yourselves or is it up to each OEM to develop there own individual drivers? It could be VERY beneficial to develop drivers as there are about 5 or more variations of this device. (O2 X-phone, Orange E200, Qtek 8080) Thanks Adam
Guest shaund316 Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 good going! seems like just a matter of time till we're surfing the net on our phones for free
Guest carlosp_uk Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 Yeah, although you can already do that with Bluetooth (crap range though) I was more interested in being able to stream videos and stuff from my wireless LAN onto the smartphone !!
Guest t3dluke Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 No offense though people but isn't it a gimmick rather than anything thats actually useful? I can see the use for a PDA but not really for a smartphone.
Guest Austin519 Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 Wesleyrpg: You should give us the email address so we can email them too...just put it in a format so it doesn't get scooped up by spambots. t3dluke: Not at all. I'm on UT Austin campus...and we have a band of wifi extending not only within 4 blocks of our university (which is about 4 square miles total) but also plenty of hotspots all around campus. In addition to that I have a pretty crazy broadcom setup at my place shooting 802.11b out 20 miles...so if I'm anywhere in the metro city I should be able to get it on my phone. And finally, the reason I have that broadcom setup is because I have a computer I built into my car, so it would be really nice to be able to sync up my desktop, laptop, cartop, and smartphone all at the same time on one network...as well as stream from one device to another. Plus I won't have to buy a bluetooth adapter for any of the above devices :). Austin519
Guest t3dluke Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 I see, but I don't exactly think that represents the average user lol. One thing, since the SD WiFi card won't have anywhere near the transmission power or sensitivity of your main AP, surely you won't be able to establish a 2 way connection?
Guest Austin519 Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 t3dluke: Probably not :). But at least for US users it's nice to go to a local coffee shop, sit down with your coffee...and not have to have a laptop to use their wireless. As for the AP and sensitivity...quite right . I can't lug around the same antenna installed in my car. But I do have other things I can do with it in one-way broadcast mode (streaming)... Austin519
Guest t3dluke Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 I thought a streaming server had to recieve a request from the client to form a connection for streaming?
Guest samo123_uk Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 why wouldn't work on the e200? I spotted a WiFi key in the Registry while bored and having a look yesterday!
Guest Maverick Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 Well.. I'll wait until they release the card with built-in memory or reduced size.
Guest Wesleyrpg Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 austin the guys email addy is : [email protected] (remove the obvious)
