Unlocked SPV on 3

I've unlocked my old SPV and inserted my new 3G sim card from my 3G Motorola phone as the phone was annoying me. My SPV is now operating on the BT Cellnet network and works fine. Just wondering if anyone knows if I can keep using my SPV on this network and getting my free calls in with my contract with 3 or if my phone will be barred and I have to go back using my other one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers

BTCellnet? You mean O2! You can use your free calls this way although 3 are getting wise to this and are matching up IMEI numbers to their cards (the IMEI number is part of the handshake required when logging onto a network so 3 will know that you are using a 2G phone). This is against their terms and conditions so they are starting to block 2G phones using the O2 network and gaining free minutes (cos it costs them a small fortune!!)

It does actually say BT Cellnet on my phone. I thought it was a bit strange too.

That was my worry also. Just seem to be having a problem with my new Motorola A835 in that it connects calls but you can't hear anything or you just get very loud bleeping noises when people talk. Don't know if it is a network problem on 3G or a phone problem. No doubt will have to look on a 3G forum.

Thanks anyway. I had heard that about 3G blocking 2G phone usage, but just wanted it clarified. I did read somewhere that they couldn't do it if your phone did not support OTA. Don't know if my old SPV does or not.

Your problems with 3 sound about right, I bought an E606 last year and it was the same, plus you never actually get a 3G signal so for all the good it did me I may aswell have bought a phone on o2.

I used it for about six weeks but with the network problems and battery life of about 6 hours I called it a day, and since September last year my 3 phone has remained off inside its box just waiting the contract out and I went for my MPx200 on Orange which is a hundred times better.

If I was you I would box the Motorola up and send it back if your still inside the 14 day money back guarantee period.

Also don't expect any help from there help line, its set up in India and none of them can understand you and certainly don't do anything you ask them too!

Cheers
