Guest Jazz_UK Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 Hi, I have tried to set up an email account on my phone but it provides various errors when I try to send (Depending on the settings - email not valid server issues etc). I have my own personal domain hosted by hostgo.com and would like set it up to send emails of photos taken with the camera (not really bothered about receiving emails). Is there an easy step by step guide I can follow. Thanks Stuart
Guest ferret Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 I know Orange have been having all kind of problems with emails lately (see this thread http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...457&highlight=) but it seems to be working for me now. Incoming mailserver should be your own but outgoing should be smtp.orange.net, and at times you have to try sending a few times because it's nowhere near 100% reliable! My settings are Name: Dyfan Rose email address: [email protected] server type: pop3 account name: My email network: the internet incoming mail server: my incoming mail server (pop3.somewhere.com) outgoing mail server: smtp.orange.net I've got the two next tickbocked unchecked.
Guest Jazz_UK Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 Ferret - Thanks for the set-up details. I have changed these and now have a new error "The messages could not be sent, Verify that you have newtwork coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again" :) What am I doing wrong? Guest A.Hughes Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 Jazz_UK dial up to Internet explorer and establish a link, you will see the little g sign above the signal strength bars. when you get this, press home button and go back into your mail bax and send and recieve again, this should work, for some unknown reason, when you reset your phone or upgrade or whatever (this is just my experience) establishing a link with IE normally gets the rest of the dial up sessions working, in this and your case, your emails using orange.net. Hopes this helps.
Guest Jazz_UK Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 A.Hughes - Thanks for the response! I can view the internet & can receive emails but still cannot send. I get the same message as before!!! Do I need to register with Orange or something? Thanks in advance for any responses Jazz
Guest A.Hughes Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 Jazz_UK, if your email address isnt for example [email protected], then you need to register here www.orange.co.uk/ Follow the left hand menu for email and messaging and you will get to the secure area were you can get your orange.net address. When you have this you need to put into your phone on the email set up were it asks, then hopefully bobs your uncle. The site above needs to be accessed via your desktop. If you have an orange.net address speak to orange cust services on 150, and they will check to see why your email isnt being sent. Hope this helps
Guest Jazz_UK Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 Cannot get an orange email account (system problems at Orange). Do I really need an orange email address if I intend to use my own domain & pop account? Jazz
Guest A.Hughes Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 No you dont, but dont forget that for you to view your own emails through a non orange server, orange is the ISP to get you there, so when orangeis having a problem, you wont be able to send and recieve i'm afraid. Sounds as though you have set everything up right, just have to wait for orange to sort things out,,,but keep trying!!
Guest fitz Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 "The messages could not be sent, Verify that you have newtwork coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again" This is a current network fault which Orange is having at the moment, (apparently happening in the south of England) The message will come and go.... I have the same problem, I just keep retrying, and eventually it goes through. Orange have told me that there is currently no ETA of a solution but enginers are working to try and resolve it. ( the same old reply as per usual ! )
Guest A.Hughes Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 engineers have been working on it for the last two weeks then,,,,,,,we are spoilt by orange are we not,,,,,,,exactly, not!!!! Will it ever end!!!!!!
Guest nvkid909 Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 are they still sending the username people chose on registration, when they should be sending the code as shown on the orange site, in 'email/organise' - 'your details' - 'email/pop3 username' (a code, which is different)? this is what happened to me. even with settings sent as message, they sent the wrong username code. so you need to go on the site, find the above & type it in your phone manually.
Guest pd.ryder Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Must admit, I haven't had any of these problems. I told E200's "email set-up" I was on anyserver.com and it wizzed off and found all the settings on it's own. I only had to provide it with user name and password. Have you had these prompts from the phone? Orange servers are notoriously unreliable and often 'go down' with little provocation
Guest bogusbill Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Regards using the so-called EmailWiz or whatever on the e200, where is it? i have searched all over the phone's menus for this!!!!
Guest Vector Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 It was on Orange update before the update but post update only contactwiz is there! :D
Guest bogusbill Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 no wonder i can't find it then, thanks
Guest pd.ryder Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Both pre- and post-update: 1. Goto "Inbox" > Menu > Options 2. Select "Account Setup", option 5 3. Select Menu > New 4. Enter your name and the full email address you want to access 5. Check the tick box under"Automatic Setup" and the device will open GPRS, access the Web and return all the pop and stmp settings needed. 6. Supply user name and password when prompted and hey-presto, off it goes to download all your mail. It will add the account to the menu along with MMS SMS and ActiveSync so it gets it's own Inbox, Outbox etc. Hope it helps. :D
