Guest jason7579 Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 I have been told by a bloke at technical support at Orange that the reason I can't get onto www.streetmap.co.uk is because of something to do with the server and to fix it he will need to contact Microsoft to get a patch that will sort the problem out. The problem I have is that I've been told at least 10 people need to have reported the same problem on their E200's to get Microsoft to authorize and release an update or patch. If anyone else has this problem can they call Orange and maybe we can get a new update to make the phone work as intended. Thanks to everyone who calls them.
Guest ferret Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 This sounds like an April Fool joke or a fob off to me.
Guest jason7579 Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 It's not an April Fools Joke promise. If you have an E200 try going onto www.streetmap.co.uk and let me know if it works. I can get into the site and put in a post code but it won't let me view the map. I know I could use multimap but streetmap is a lot clearer and easier to use. I'm in urgent need of this to be fixed as I'm a lorry driver and need it for work.
Guest ferret Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 Sorry, I meant Orange having a joke on you or fobbing you off. With my little knowledge of all things internet, I can't understand why microsoft need to give Orange a patch to sort out a problem with streetmaps hosting server. You could also try www.streetmole.com and www.multimap.com have a phone version but I can't find the address sorry. EDIT: it might be this http://www.multimap.com/map/places.cgi?client=light Application wise you could also try Mapopolis or MS Pocket Streets.
Guest jason7579 Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 Thanks a lot mate. I'll give them a try. I know very little as well so I just have to take what they say as they say it.
Guest martin Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 If you have an E200 try going onto www.streetmap.co.uk and let me know if it works. I can get into the site and put in a post code but it won't let me view the map. Shows the maps for me OK :) Did you try Menu-Refresh on the page ?
Guest ferret Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 You have got show pictures ticked in the option menu too?
Guest jason7579 Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 I've got show pictures ticked. Haven't tried refresh but have tried with a number of postcodes. Have tried deleting cache and freeing up as much memory as possible. It's the main reason I have bought the phone so it's really starting to bug me now. I'll let Orange know that other people aren't having this problem (is it an E200 you tried it on, because the SPV and E100 are ok) and I'll get a replacement sent out. What update are you using cuz I haven't updated my software yet. It's on my to do when I can be bothered list :)
Guest Bob the Gooner Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Good call Jason7579, I also upgraded from the E100 to the E200 and my main use would be (if it worked) streetmap.co.uk. I am a courier and need this site on a day to day basis, I spoke to a guy at Orange Data support called Simon. He told me the same thing about the E200 server, and also that they needed at least 10 complaints before Microsoft would sort an update patch. I have logged my complaint, so that will hopefully start the ball rolling, so come on guys lend us a hand here. The reason I use streetmap instead of multimap is, that on streetmap they point to the exact location ie. what side of the road. We are all on Modaco for similar reasons to find advice for our smartphone problems, so make the call if you have an E200 and use people power to make a change.
Guest jason7579 Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Thanks Bob, It's good to see other people have been told the same thing and it wasn't just me. Hopefully with a few phone calls we can get this sorted out.
Guest c2fow Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 No maps shown for me, either & I am running the update. Other sites - such a multimap - are fine.
Guest Maverick Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 What about GPRS charges for accessing streetmap? It might be cheaper on the long run to get something like mapopolis.
