Guest kwyeung Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Hi all, I'm a newbies xphone user from Hong Kong. I face some problem of connecting to Internet using ISP Dial Up, NOT GPRS / WAP.... it's too expansive for me  First, I'm sure I got data line on my SIM card, as it work on my Nokia 8850 + Psion Revo Plus. I set up the xPhone as follow: Start -> Settings -> Data Connections -> Dial Up Connections: Connect to: The Internet Phone Number: 12345678 Username: userid Password: passwd Domain: (leave blank) And I do not have any other kind of dial up connections / GPRS connections. Then I got error of "Unable to place call". I even tried to put my home phone number as the "Phone Number" in the dial up connections, but my home phone didn't ring.... so there must be some problem related to my phone and settings. So, anyone could help :?: For your information, I could successfully connect to GPRS network with another SIM card.
Guest martin Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Hi :) Did you put the number as Country code, dialling code and number or did you use number only ? What type of number is the ISP dialup ? If you dial it normally on your phone, do you hear the modem ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest kwyeung Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Hi :) Did you put the number as Country code, dialling code and number or did you use number only ? Number only What type of number is the ISP dialup ? Sorry, what do you mean "what type"? It just like a normal phone number If you dial it normally on your phone, do you hear the modem ? Yup, I do hear modem shaking sound. Thanks a lot.
Guest martin Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Have you tried including the Country code and area code in the dialup settings ? Can you tell us what the ISP dialup number is ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest kwyeung Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Have you tried including the Country code and area code in the dialup settings ? Yup... it didn't work neither... btw, hong kong does not use area code. Can you tell us what the ISP dialup number is ? 30086300
Guest martin Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 OK :) There is a way to dial using the number only but you need to change something in the registry. I will try and find the details for you  Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest martin Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 Here it is http://www.ppcw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=889 (look for the screen captures) I've tried it before and it works for dialup using number only (without country code and area code) :) You just need the registry editor and it it only takes a minute to make the changes.
Guest kwyeung Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 I tried it doesn't work on my case. may be it only worked on Smartphone2002. I find that in "Data Connections" (Settings) in my phone, there are no country / area code fields, so user could not entered it anyway. I also found that, in CurrentLoc entry, my phone by default is 0, refering to location "0" it entry is like this: DefaultEntry G G G 0 It is a ten line entry. and so similar to that on PPCW. I tried to follow PPCW instruction, it failed, then I tried to add more blank lines to make to 10 lines, but still failed...
Guest kalinte Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 i dont understand what you're trying to do dude....... youwant to use your phone as pass through connection? or as a modem?
Guest kwyeung Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 Simply want to check E-Mail on my SmartPhone
Guest zone Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 i connect using dial up too, i assume you made a new connection in data connections? if so select this in internet connection instead of leving it at automatic, and it should work. for the record i find the standard dialup to be pretty much the same speed as gprs just takes longer to connect. Guest kwyeung Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 Sorry, I tried, but it doesn't work.... I even tried to connect my desktop to Internet through phone, such as PC --Bluetooth--> SmartPhone --Dialup --> Internet It doesn't work. I tried to use terminal mode, and use AT command like atdt 30082300 The result is no carrier. May be I should contact the O2 Service.
