Guest ska_core Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Would it be possible to replace the windows os with symbian used on nokia phones? -Dan
Guest moo_ski_doo Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 What??????!!!!!!!! That's no way to make friends............
Guest chucky.egg Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Jeez, that's a brave question! Another satisfied E200/Orange customer are you? I doubt it is even technically possible, but give it a go and let us know how you get on.
Guest scott2eyes Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Wouldn't that be kind of like buying an Apple Mac, then installing Windows on it?
Guest ska_core Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Wouldn't that be kind of like buying an Apple Mac, then installing Windows on it? if you can put linux on an xbox, why not???? i prefer symbian to windows ce because its less cluttered and easier to navigate around. also the windows look and feel is too cluttered and slow
Guest Pondrew Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 if you can put linux on an xbox, why not???? i prefer symbian to windows ce because its less cluttered and easier to navigate around. also the windows look and feel is too cluttered and slow Interesting perspective! I can't argue with you because I've next to no experience of Symbian but I understood that MS Smartphones tend to have more potential as powerful/versatile devices because of the operating system, wouldn't putting Symbian on it just remove that potential?! Or have I just bought into the MS propaganda?
Guest chucky.egg Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 I understood that MS Smartphones tend to have more potential as powerful/versatile devices because of the operating system In theory that may be true (I don't know) but in practice the MS Smartphones currently have fewer applications available to choose from, and none of them are exactly unique or revolutionary. That's not to say that something really interesting isn't just around the corner, but I've yet to see an app that really makes the phone feel either powerful or versatile, and in the meantime the Symbian devices (well UIQ at least) are fast and stable with more applications available.
Guest ultimasnake Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Why the hell did you buy an e200 in the first place then if you want symbian os.... man some poeple just crack me up........ROFL..... Symbian is dead :D
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Aside from any Smartphone/Symbian arguements... To get any operating system working on a specific phone a lot of work needs to be done (generally by the manufacturer ie HTC) to plug that operating system in. While it may be relatively easy to get symbian running on a generic ARM device, you'd need a custom bootloader to make it load on the e200, and then if you wanted it to be useable you'd need to develope custom drivers to make it work with: phone ie make calls; camera; sd card; keypad; headset; usb port. So really a no go... unless you can convince HTC to invest 6 months work which is highly unlikely.
Guest goinnuts Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 i have both mpx200 and 6600. i have being playing intersteller flames on both devices. my findings are as follows, ms faster and smoother. i have no probs with symbian or ms but i do find ms neater and handset build quality is better on the mpx. but for different style apps i do prefer symbian theres much more for now, also the cam (att on mpx) is faster and smoother on the 6600. conclusion is both are excellent hansets for different reasons.
Guest dinoalbert Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 @ska, if ever they do that then its not gonna be a SMARTPHONE anymore
