Guest Pondrew Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Now that I've got Mapopolis running I'm trying to decide which GPS mouse to buy for use with my E200 and wanted to check how much you all have been paying for your equipment and what your thoughts are? I'm thinking of going for the Fortuna Bluetooth Clip-On GPS mouse but would be interested in the serial/XDA connector solutions others have come up with. Just noticed this on Ebay but put off by the postage and packing charges (still, the price is good at the mo... just £36 with 20hours to go).
Guest mcwarre Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 gcheung on eBay always seems to offer good deals until you see his p&p; the minimum he normally charges is £7.50 which is vf steep for say an SD card!
Guest Pondrew Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Yeah, and given I don't recognise the GPS mouse I don't think I'll be going for it.
Guest PT-1 Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 How about this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...MEBWA%3AIT&rd=1 ? I just tested my SPVE100 with a wired GPS Solution(Not the one mentioned above!!) and was really pleased. Just in the City(London) it lost it's Signal. Cheers PT-1
Guest Pondrew Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Well, seems great value. Might be worth putting up with the serial connection if it saves about £100... Your GPS was having trouble in central London? Is that a common problem with them? Assumed it was more resiliant then that...
Guest Bro Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 I paid £155 quid for mine.. Fortuna Bt clip on. No probs so far.. bought it on strength of the "you can remove and replace the battery when it gets fried" claim. It's really small, I reckon you could fit 18 of 'em in the box that you get it in, This is an advantage if you don't want to diplay £155's worth of flashing l.e.d's on your dashboard, Mine clips snugly onto the roof pillar of my white van and can't be seen from outside.
Guest glynton Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 GPS in general has trouble in big cities I find.. i have a Garmin Etrex Legend and Whilst walking around Oslo on holiday, it found it difficult to keep a lock on. But i knew this before i bought it, and i mainly use it for rural trekking. Considered buying a bluetooth GPS module but found it pointless if it needs a clear view of the sky (from the point of view of weatherproofness). My Etrex legend is great and i'm gonna wait for the Motorola MPX to come out so i can use the software i got with it (Memory Map) to transfer 3D maps and aerial photos to it and connect it to the Etrex Legend and get real time Topological Mapping.
Guest Pondrew Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Cheers for the input people. I actually got my first Bluetooth USB dongle today (got the MSI Btoes PC2PC one) so that'll be occupying my attention for a while. Still haven't managed to get Activesync to work although the phone seems to connect to the PC. I noticed that one of the Fortuna Clipon GPS went for less then a £100 on Ebay today so will probably shell out for that (assuming it turns out all clips can be bought so cheap).
Guest yaya Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Will the Fortuna Bluetooth Clip-On work on a device with the OLD ROM? (no update applied)
Guest Bro Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 No, the update fixes the bt serial port, thus enabling a bt device to work with e200
Guest yaya Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Thanks Bro you've been very helpful I decided not to go with the update but surly want to use Mapopolis so... should I buy a serial connected GPS receiver? Yaya
Guest Bro Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Aye , that sounds like the best solution.. then you can use it both before and after updating rom. :D
Guest pizdyetz77 Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 what the hell's a GPS Mouse? ________________________________________ it's only easy if you know the answer (Chris Tarrant)
Guest Will Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 it's a mouse that can tell you it's position in a series of squeaks :D Seriously. It's a small unit that looks like a pc mouse, as it's a box with a wire (tail) that usually has a usb or ppc/phone connector attached. it can only be used with a pc/phone/pda. and combined with mapopolis on the smartphone can tell you where you are!
