Guest dh Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I've been working on an application that keeps the backlight on when connected to a power source, hense Auto Backlight :!: , it works like this... When external power is applied the application is notified and it changes the registry to set the backlight timeout to never, it then send an event to tell the phone that a backlight change has been made. The backlight then remains on. When external power is removed the registry is restored to the previous state and the system is notified again. The backlight should do what it did before. This is an early attempt, seems to work fine on my phone (SPV E200 with update) I'm not sure it will work on non 2003 smartphones etc etc. My main reason for this app is it's what I was used to on previous phones and it's a topic I've seen mentioned numerous times on this site. I hope it is useful for others. Comments and suggestions are welcomed. I intend to enhance it, time permitting. May even get it to use an icon! (using .net 2003 help welcomed for the icon thing, can't get the app to display an icon?). :?:  Install the app to the phone (I've not done loads of tests with it installed to a storage card). Requires about 70k AT YOUR OWN RISK and all that :!: SEE BELOW FOR UPDATED VERSION
Guest fraser Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Nice one, that's something I'd wanted for a while! Would it be possible to trigger based on an activesync connection, instead of mains power? That way your phone screen will go off when you power down your PC at night. Handy if it's in a bedroom!!
Guest dh Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I know there are other notification events, I'll have a look, I was also looking to get the app to allow other timeout settings when connected to power other than just stay on all the time, in other words allow the user to select the timeout period when on power.
Guest Jon_ Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 Good work, ive been wondering if theres a setting for this, thanks! Jon
Guest Rusty Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 After purchasing a BT GPS receiver and buying the maps from Mapopolis, this was one feature that i really wanted for my phone as i knew i couldn't be bothered to adjust the power properties every time i wanted to use the satnav in my car. However, after one day setting my backlight timeout to 'never' it soon became apparent (after i forgot to reset the backlight timer) that my backlight went off anyway as soon as it was taken off a power source. I now have my phone set to turn backlight off 'never' and when in the car on the car charger or on the desktop charger, the light is always on, all other times off charge the backlight goes out and the screen totally blanks after 20s or so - sweet :D wonder if this is something that was implemented in the E200 update??????? I will however be downloading this aplication as i have no faith that my phone will continue to behave in this manner  Posted from my SmartPhone! After purchasing a BT GPS receiver and buying the maps from Mapopolis, this was one feature that i really wanted for my phone as i knew i couldn't be bothered to adjust the power properties every time i wanted to use the satnav in my car. Guest dh Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 UPDATED VERSION :D New version gives the ability to set the timeout value when on extrernal power, also changed in interface a bit and removed the shotcut from startup as it doesn't seem to hide correctly when started this way I'd suggest removing the first version manually first check http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=107483
Guest BrAGoL Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 any same apps for E100? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest dh Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Rusty, If I remember the update sets the screen saver to turn the screen off after 20 secs or so, i'd bet that is what is happening, interesting to know it doesn't turn the screen off when in the cradle etc.
Guest Rusty Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 My Backlight timeout is set to 'Never', my Screen Saver Mode is set to 'Turn off', these settings were adjusted by myself so aren't the standard settings, yet whilst off charge or off the cradle the phone does blank and on charge/cradle the phone is lit always :D Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest dh Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 OK, The update turned my screen saver on, I've not tried having the screen saver on and timeout to never, will give it a try, i assume it will do the same
