Guest zubo Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Hi Hope someone can help me trying to understand what is wrong here. I have NEVER been able to send or receive picture or message as opposed to text msgs. and its driving me crazy. In another topic I picked up from Vodafone Contract settings these: Create GPRS connection Description : Vodafone MMS Connects to : MMS connection Access point: wap.vodafone.co.uk User name: wap Paswword: wap Settings - Accessories - MMS setup First field: Vodafone MMS IP: 212.183.137.012 Port: 9201 Mmsc Address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms This settings - accessories - MMS setup I cannot see anywhere at all on my phone, but I can connect upto the internet and browse ok using the previous settings prior to the MMS. When I try to send a message, it seems to connect up ok, then takes ages trying to send, then says alert failed to send message! Message was moved to draft folder. Can ANYONE shed some light on where the MMS setup above is actually setup and more importantly what might be the problem with sending MMS messages (and yes I subscribe to all services and have GPRS as part of my account). Thanks very much!! George
Guest zubo Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Blimey that was quick, errr not sure how you enable it, could you tell me where to look please ta
Guest hotphil Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Vodafone should be able to tell you if you're MMS is enabled - sorry, don't know how best to contact them
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Yep sorry forgot to add that bit, you need to contact their customer support and get them to check your account.
Guest zubo Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 that'll be carphone warehouse people I guess, Im pretty sure I am but I will call them.
Guest James Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 i think you can do it online via their website... not sure though.. just remember my mate doing it somehow. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest zubo Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 yeah I just logged in my account services simply says I subscribe to GPRS, absolutely nothing mentioned about MMS I remember ages ago talking about MMS and the techguy said yeah - that's the same as GPRS, so .... question is .... what is wrong with my settings or perhaps how do I set the last MMS setting mentioned in the start of the thread.
Guest Disco Stu Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 What you need to do is give Customer Services a ring and check with them that MMS is enabled. I think its a switch at their end. No way around it I'm afraid. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest zubo Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 yeah that was exactly it - they had not enabled it - now I need to wait 24 hours to see if it works.
Guest zubo Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 They sent me an email (at 1.30) to say MMS has now been enabled, and would be ready in 2 hours, at 5:00 I tried to send one with exact same problem, checked with their tech support - yes it had been setup - why didnt I try to send myself an MMS message, so I got off the phone and tried to do that with exact same result: it tries, connects, seems to send 5% then hangs and dies. Question then - is my MMS settings correct and exactly what did the Vodafone Contract poster mean by the last paragraph in my first post??? thanks in anticipation that someone knows the answer george
Guest zubo Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Getting closer, still does not work but just posted this reply back to customer support. If anybody here knows the answer please post it and save me the wait : Adam Try as I may I cannot get my MMS working. My phone is a Microsoft SPV Smartphone. Can you forward this onto your technical support folk to tell me where to set these up - I have setup GPRS settings for MMS WAP and Web but I cannot see where you enter the URL in MMS, Default URL in WAP and Web. Guest martin Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 zubo What software are you running on your phone ?
Guest zubo Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I just upgraded to Qtek 7070 Does this change the operating system?
Guest martin Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I just upgraded to Qtek 7070 Yeah - that OK. (there are various other MMS programs out there) The settings in the first topic should work for you. Did you enter the all the settings in Programs - Accessories - MMS setup ?
Guest zubo Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Hurray.... Thanks to EVERYONE who contributed. I ignored the settings sent to me by CPWarehouse (and they still havent replied to me ...) It was a number of things wrong : Vodafone DO need to set you up with MMS Martin gave me the second puzzle piece - the last step in the Contract Vodafone setting should say Programs > Accessories > MMS Setup I needed to set this up ... and finally .... I had several failed messages in my Draft folder which simply could not be sent: I assume that once they have tried to be sent and failed then they still contain some dodgy incorrect attributes, because once I had all my settings in place and created a brand new message - BINGO it sent no problems at all!!! Again, many many thanks to you all. George
Guest nvkid909 Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 also one more thing... don't know if this is correct, but on mine it would appear that i need to close apps running in the background with task manager, in particular, those that i had used on gprs connection like the internet or messenger. for some reason it doesnt like connecting to the orange mms site until i've cleared those. thats what works for me!
Guest zubo Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 Spoke toooo soon. I successfully sent a changed background colour to me, that is all I sent. It connects upto GPRS then sends ok. I had been synchronizing my phone to Outlook on my Notebook. I decided that I would setup a Yahoo email account, then config the phone to pickup that email account: that is all I did: the program did say that I would not be able to synchronize with my mail client on the Notebook, but so what. The config worked, I guessed that the yahoo servers were pop3.yahoo.co.uk and smtp.yahoo.co.uk but trying to connect actually failed. Shame, because I sent my yahoo account pics I wanted to use in my phone. Yes I know I can copy them into the SD card when synced, but I wanted to test using a free email account for my phone. anyway, that is ALL I did, and now I cannot send any MMS message, I am back to connecting, starting to send, hanging and giving up - albeit all very much quicker than before. Interestingly, the 'good' SMS sent from me to me I can reply to and it sends the SMS msg back ok, so the transport comms seems to work, just new creation fails somehow to setup the right bits... Anybody know at all please ?????????????????
