Guest crimminsky Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Hi All, In the last two months I've had two replacement E200's due to faults with the sd card not reading and the sticky back button problem, Imagine my suprise when I got a £70 (normally £30) bill yesterday due to excessive GPRS usage. now I very rarely use GPRS so I rang OCS and was told that it was down to me using the backup tool  . Now for some reason I was under the impression that Backup was free but alas I was wrong. When I asked why it was so High, he pointed out that If i had any Video clips in "my documents" that would bump up the costs.... I have Three clips of my dog 1.2, 1.2 and 2.8Mb   what I take offence too is being charged when I had to back up due to THEIR faulty handsets. The OCS guy said it wasn't Orange's problem it was HTC's  I asked to speak to a manager but he flatly refused to put me through, in the end he PROMISED (ha) to get a manager to call me back before 6:30 and guess what? he didn't. What Shall I do now? I really feel that they should foot the cost for the backup, whether it was 10KB or 10MB. Anyway I' won't make the same mistake again and I hope this warning stops anyone else for falling for this error. Cheers Crimminsky
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Sounds to me like more CS bull to be honest. I was always under the impression Orange backup was a completely free service, and this fact was opoenly publisied (sp) at the original launch. I'd say keep fighting to get your money back and find out if anyone else has managed to get video's up with or without being charged.
Guest MECX Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 My GOD it must have taken FOR EVER to upload 5.2mb worth!!!! Thats a total bummer i thought backup was free ---even if it isnt orange should repay you out of goodwill coz of all the faulty handsets you have had. gayness it is :x
Guest crimminsky Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 I shall give them another call tonight, I'm that fed up with Orange that I think I'm ready to walk, The OCS guy did say I could buy out my contract if I wasn't happy, Does anyone know how much that costs? I've been on your plan 120 since november. I should probably change my plan to a lower one first, do's that make sense? Why are all CS centres useless these days?
Guest mcwarre Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Why are all CS centres useless these days? If you pay peanuts, you get monkies.................
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 I've always heard you simply pay out the tariff monthly fee for the number of months remaining on your contract. i dont know why you couldnt just move to the cheapest tariff and do it though. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest blewer Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 I always use pass-through for back ups, as I wasn't sure if it costs. Glad now :D Keep on at them, i'm sure you will get a refund
Guest rogerbates Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 i was always under the impression that it was free. Never seems to appear on my bill. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest crimminsky Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 normally It's only Kb's so you probably don't notice it or it gets included in the orange world free MB's. Try uploaded some films......ha no, only kidding :D. Haven't had chance to ring O again yet, will do it tonight. If I don't get any joy I shall be changing my tariff to the virgin one and I'll be getting a Nokia 6600 from o2. I've had enough of the E200 now, great phone but not practical and too many bugs, for me anyway.
Guest MECX Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 awwww dude at least get a p900!!! just wondering how long did it actually take you to upload that much? :D
Guest crimminsky Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 It did take a while, LOL, now I think about it, it was Around 30-45mins. I just thought it was a problem at orange's end.. I shall stick with the 6600, I'm more of a gamer and there is LOOOOADs of games for that 8) I shall miss this forum though
Guest MECX Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 im sure you can still post :D well they might let you ;)
Guest zeta101 Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 i dont know about that mecx, paul the admin has special powers, he'll know if someones using a nokia and ban thier IP ;) :D
Guest SpaceRain Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 I knew it was using GPRS, I saw it logging on the very first time, so I knew it wasn't free, but I chose to just backup my contacts, and not all my documents. :)
Guest rogerbates Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 I shouldn’t be surprised really, what was I thinking, Orange giving you something useful for free! It does really come in handy as the phone is always messing up. I thought that Orange had included this to help their customers as the phone is a bit buggy. A phone that is always messing up and the only way to back up and restore is over expensive GPRS, = ££££££££££ I always wondered why there wasn’t a tool to do this over ActiveSync, now I know; there isn’t any money in it.
Guest Gorskar Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Yea, but you could sync your phone and use the backup utility through passthrough... that wouldnt cost anything, and would be a damn sight faster! NB that backup utility that came after the 1.6 update seemed to work perfectly for me! Maybe I was just lucky!
