Guest pwest13 Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 HEy all, This site is the only reason i bought a SPV basically cos its a so helpful, and such a strong group. Being cheap off ebay also helped KK to the point, I am the happy owner of a Orange SPV (CLassic) I have installed many files onto my phone fine, e.g. SmartExplorer, DOOM ;) ... ALAS! music is my downfall. I cannot install music or even mpegs onto my phone! Well, i have managed to install the odd song 100% but other then that they either transfer a random percent normally below 10%. I don't think its the USB port as i have tried thru both. Whenever the transfer decides to stop, it restarts my computer! I have tried Hard Reset, reinstalling active sync, format SD card... The vexing thing is that noone else seems to have ever in the history of spvs ever had this problem... I use XP. Rom versions: Operator: 1.3.5.6 MAnufacturer: 1.3.5.6 Thanks for any help possible, u legends :D
Guest midnight Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 if your computer restarts thats where i'd start looking, i cant see the fault being with the spv, maybe try removing your usb drivers and reinstalling
Guest pwest13 Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 hmm i may try that midnight, but i still cant see why it would let any file transfer except mpeg, some went on fine tho... like the david brent dance :D  ;) thx again!
Guest akarno Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 One possible cause is that you are using a USB hub. If you are, try using a direct port or ensure you have the hub externally powered.
Guest pwest13 Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 negatori, direct port, is still restarting.... fair play to any1 who knows the problem to this pain in the neck...
Guest maxh2003 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 What version of ActiveSync are you using? (ActiveSync -> Help -> About Microsoft ActiveSync)- it should say 3.7.2 (Build 3244) IIRC. Do you have a smart card reader, and if so, does *that* work OK on the same PC? let any file transfer except mpegIf you change the file extension to something else (e.g. .BIN or something), do they copy across OK? If so that could indicate a rogue File Conversion within ActiveSync (Options -> Rules -> Conversion Settings). Have you used any other kind of Windows CE device on the PC in question? try removing your usb drivers and reinstalling is well worth a try, and under XP is the job of a few minutes. Reinstalling ActiveSync is worth a try too. Let us know how you get on...
Guest pwest13 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 First of all thx for great feedback :D 1) My version is different, Version 3.7.1 (Build 4034) Odd bcos i installed Active Synce about 3 weeks ago, and thoguht it was most recent edition. I dont use a smart Card reader. 2) Yep installs fine. Possibly may have used a Psion device on this comp, cos this is my dads old comp and he used to use one. In my active sync conversion settings there is nothing about mpegs in the list for 'Desktop to Device' or 'Device to Desktop.' May this be the problem? Thanks again maxh2003!
Guest maxh2003 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 1) My version is different, Version 3.7.1 (Build 4034) My mistake - 3.7.2 was a typo, and 3244 is an old build... There *should* be no mpeg conversion settings, so that's not the problem. Hmmm...
Guest pwest13 Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 lol good cos i couldnt find that update any where :D Just tried to copy some songs 1 succesfully copied throught Windows Media player 9 "copy 2 device" function, buttrying to copy more restarted my computer ;) Westy
Guest ferret Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Do you always copy music through WMP9? If you do, try using the old fashioned cut and paste from one exporer window to another. You can get the Phones explorer either through Activesync > Explore or under My Computer. Also try disabling any file conversions in Activesync as it can try and convert some files to a smaller (phone friendly) format.
Guest pwest13 Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Nope i have used both ways, but i found i get a higher percent (on average) of a song copying thru WMP 9 so that is what i tried with earlier. I am just gonna disable file conversion, but i bet my comp will restart so i will post this now rather then have iny to retype it....
Guest Vector Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 does the system give any type of error or just restart?
Guest pwest13 Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 BLimey that was a quick reply Dave! Nope no warning just restarts itself like some1 has hit restart... No prizes for guessing my comp DID restart again from trying to disable file conversions, the bar got to about 7/10 way copying thru i reckon. Im gonna try to reinstall my USB, im on XP but i havent a clue how to do it, can any1 do a quick idiots guide for me :D Thxs for all your help! Westy
Guest Vector Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Not sure how to reinstall USB....look on google if nobody on here knows :D If reinstalling the USB doesn't work, and you still have reboots try this... Right click "My Computer", choose advanced tab,go down to bottom, "Startup and recovery etc." click settings, and untick "Automatically restart", and see what error it gives, and post it ;)
Guest pwest13 Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 ok Dave thanks mate i will try that if my usb reinstall doesn't work. i said earlier i tried to copy a maroon 5 song, when i found it looking through Active Sync it looked like this "~aroon 5 - Songs about Jane - Harder to Breath.~p3" instead of "Maroon 5 - Songs about Jane - Harder to Breath.mp3" when i renamed it to the 2nd i could play the song but it stopped where the d/l stopped, not good only having half a song :D Westy
Guest pwest13 Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 I cant seem to find anything on re-installing usb... Max - "...is well worth a try, and under XP is the job of a few minutes. Reinstalling ActiveSync is worth a try too." U siad re-installing USB was a matter of minutes, could u tell me the matter? cos i cant find it anywhere :D Thxs in advance!
Guest djboo Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 right. im gonna guess some things. im gonna guess you have an AMD cpu. im also gonna guess you have an SIS or VIA chipset. if VIA, then install the latest 4-in-1's or what ever they are nowadays. if SIS (or ALI) i think its GART drivers u want - if u have NFORCE (which i doubt) then u want latest nvidia nforce drivers. they got some weird name... really tho - unless u got intel, your USB wont be perfect out of the box and ull need to get the latest patches. * djboo thanks god he no longer has to cope with this kinda s*** on novatech's support line anymore - thanks the day he quit :D
Guest pwest13 Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 Well, aint life just swell.... My friend recomended updating my phone from the orane site (which i havew tride lots of times before but the site was always down). So he sent me his faultless copy of the update and i thought my probs would probably be solved. So upon installing the update my phone got to 100% deleted! I was like wahey!!! But then it got to 3% update....and my computer reset.. AAAAAAAAAAAAH! so i tried re-installing using a helpfull page on this forum "reviving your spv from a 1.6 crash" But it reset on 33% this time, i tried again it crashed 3% i tried again 30%!!! I passed my phone to my friend so he could run the update at his set up where it all works fine and the "device could not be found" Im so dissappointed.
