Guest schriss Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Here is what I found out for all of developers out there :D Documentation and Online Resources for NVIDIA GPUs using OpenGL ES (for example GoForce2150 found in Mitac Mio 8390) NVIDIA Handheld SDK (March 2004) http://developer.nvidia.com/object/hhsdk_home.html There are examples, Handheld Demo Wizard, etc. I found out that 2150 is 64bit 2D graphics engine, it has double buffered frame buffer, hardware DCT, RLE, Huffman encoding, hardware JPEG encoder, hardware display rotation, mirror, flip, etc. Graphics acceleration includes: BitBLT 256 3-op raster operations, rectangle fill, all angle line draw and others. Please take advantage of this hardware ;)
Guest vdk Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 so what does all that mean? The 8390 has the best graphics card out there for a mobile phone? My friend has the nokia phone that can play video from a sd card and says the 8390 has very good picture quality compared to his.
Guest schriss Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I'm not saying it's the best graphics as I don't know all cell phones out there. But this GoForce reminds me the times of first 3D accelerators for desktop PCs. I've been at nvidias web site and they already made GoForce3D for cell phones! Isn't that exciting? I had Nokia7650 and I was able to wach movies, but not much more. What I'd like to see is developers taking advantage of such hardware to make for example spvQuake or spvDoom playable :D I don't want antialiasing... yet ;)
Guest Zim Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Well trust me the mio is a beast. we shall see the full force of the hardware capabilities when midnight releases his game. i am sure we can then see how well this baby preforms! "Z"
Guest schriss Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Isn't it one of those MediaQ's chips? MediaQ Companion Chip MQ1188 Enhances Multimedia Performance on MiTAC Mio 8380 Smartphone http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_9210.html If yes, then I can't wait to see some movie players taking advantage of it!! http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_9221.html "In initial tests, the optimized pvPlayer running on MediaQ's MQ-1168 accelerated video decoding to run up to three times faster (as measured in frames per second) than CPU-only handheld hardware solutions." I hope PocketTV and PocketMVP players developers are keeping their eyes on this stuff :D It appears PacketVideo's pvPlayer already takes advantage of this hardware ;) http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_9221.html
Guest schriss Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Just imagine, firing up your favourite movie player and surprise! "nVidia hardware detected" popup :D or better: "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" logo ;) and 3x speed boost over "regular" smartphones
Guest schriss Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Oh my god!! Have you seen?? http://developer.nvidia.com/object/hhsdk_home.html Check out GoForce 3D: Geometry Transform Engine (fixed AND floating point), Pixel Shader, Vertex Shader, Super-Sample Antialiasing, Multitexturing, Fog, Compressed textures (DXT1) - all comes to our cell phones soon :D ;) And it supports OpenGL ES and Direct3D Mobile APIs, a paradise for developers :P :D :D
