Guest zakirm Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I downloaded ROM updating tool from Orange website two days ago and tried to install it. It erased the previous ROM but did not install new ROM. Now it is stuck in CANARY MV screen with USB at bottom (it changes to Serial when disconnected from cradle). It seems that Active sync has deleted the partnership. I have followed the suggestions on this website, but unfortunately it did not work for me. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance Zac
Guest Palindrome Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 That happened to me as well. Simply put the phone back in the cradle with the canary screen showing and run the update again. It will pick up from where it left of on your first attempt.
Guest zakirm Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Hi, Thanks for your quick reply. I tried your suggestion, but it is not having it. I've noticed that in active sync, my partnership is no longer there. I may be wrong, but I think that it may be a communication failure between update tool and SPV. When it happend to you, was active sync in operation? Is it somehow possible to create a partnership when SPV is not working, or is there a workaround this? Cheers Zac
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 When on the canary screen Activsync will not see the phone, this is normal. As above just re-run the update to restore your phone. As long as you can get to the canary screen the phone is repairable.
Guest Palindrome Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 What exactly is happening and showing on your PC screen when you run the update when your phone is in the cradle with the Canary screen showing?
Guest zakirm Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 When the SPV is on Canary screen, On PC, the installation runs OK and then a little Orange window appears saying "Checking the information on your SPV...Please wait". It satys on this screen for hours. I have tried it several times, even once left it overnight, but it satys on the same screen. By the way, in Task Manager, it doesn't come out as "Not responding", and never locks up the PC. hope this information will be of help. Cheers Zac
Guest zakirm Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 Thanks everyone for their help. I have finally managed to upload ROM onto my SPV. Here is what I had to do; Since the ROM update failure, I tried endlessly installing ROM onto my SPV but it never worked. Someone had posted a solution somewhere that try using a fresh computer for install. So I took it to my friend's computer. It initially did not work. But when I deleted the IPSM it worked straight away. Deleting IPSM is also called a hard reset. Someone on this website had suggested a different method, but on my SPV all I had to do was to take the battery out for 30 seconds, put the SPV in the cradle, as soon as you see BOOT LOADER screen, press and hold the ACTION KEY for a few seconds. Then from the Diagnostic menu chose, Delete IPSM. Once it says PASSED. Switch of mobile phone by pressing and holding power button. It will restart itself and go to CANARY screen. Then run the update. It should work. I hope this helps. Cheers. Zac
