Guest mcwarre Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Right, I have had enough of Orange messing me about with their email problems. What I am after is an email account that is (in order of preference): 100% reliable (or close to) Virus free Access via phone (Pocket Outlook), Web & Outlook Spam free (or close) Free! Any suggestions or experiences welcome... Over to you :D

Guest Coucou Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 google gmail involves serious invasion of privacy though. Prob no more than a company account but a lot more than I'd like for a private account
Guest zeta101 Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 yeah gmail apparently scans your emails content and uses that to direct "personlised" advertising towards your email. However i was reading they might be stopped from doing this as its against some privacy laws etc
Guest mcwarre Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 GMail is definately against the European Data Protection Act and an American Senator is trying to get it blocked as well methinks. :D ;) Maverick, I get nothing but spam in my hotmail and have given up using it............
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Since the launch of the latest version of Hotmail i've not had a single spam shot in my inbox. Admittedly i've also never really used the account for email, however what i did get (10-15 a day) is now no more :D
Guest nedge2k Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Im using ntlworld.com pretty damn good and pop3. Plus a handy little feature that tells you alot of things about your email:Untitled-3.gif
Guest siu99spj Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Im using ntlworld.com pretty damn good and pop3. Plus a handy little feature that tells you alot of things about your email: Thats just basic header info. Press alt+enter on any e-Mail in Outlook (xpress) and you'll get the same. MS just keep it hidden to avoid scaring people. For E-Mail I personally use Yahoo! Its free, no ads and I set up for POP3 retrieval whilst it was free. Only problem is you can get spammed if you have an obvious name, but when you got something like mine, you get virtually none (Though they don't seem to good at stopping the ridiculous quantity of Bagle virus E-Mails I was getting). But other than that, I've had four years of trouble-free use.
Guest badboy4life Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 I've got a freeserve email account, think it's free even if you don't use freeserve as your ISP. Touch-wood I've never recieved any Spam and you get web and pop access. I've been using it for about 6 years.
Guest MECX Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 By FAR the best email service is Fastmail www.fastmail.fm No spam very reliable 10mb inbox ---No Pop3 only IMAP4--haddent used this before but its much better than POP3 anyway. You can pay a one off fee and get more features (including pop3) and better email addresses as well. :D
Guest mcwarre Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Many thanks for all the advice :D ;) I took the plunge and registered a domain name (£4 for 2 years) then e-mail (POP3 / Web / Outlook) with virus scanning and anti-spam for £6.99. The service is reliable and hopefully that is £11 well spent. www.oneandone.co.uk if anyone is interested....
