Guest srikanth.reddy123 Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 I am trying to use an unlocked SPV e200 in India. I am using a local SIM, HUTCH, and I am able to make and receive calls. I took the phone to the same service provider and got the GPRS activated. But when I try to connect I get an Error message "Unable to place call". They tried all kinds of settings but the situation is the same. The service provider here has no clue as to what the problem might be, since they have never seen this model before. Later at home I discovered that if I am connected to my computer (Active Sync), I am able to browse the Web, but the minute I disconnect my cable, I loose the connection. Does anyone have any clue as to what I need to do? The settings are given at the following site:- {"http://www.hutch.co.in/corpsite/home/gprs/manualsettings_gprspopup.html"}, but I am not very clear on where I need to enter this info. Can someone walk me thru the steps ...one by one ....Thaaaaanks!
Guest martin Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Hi srikanth.reddy123 :D I'll try my best to give you a rough guide on how to setup and test the E200 GPRS but the level of internet access will depend on your network provider and your subscription. As a minimum you should at least have access to download WML pages via a WAP service. First you should have a top centre G displayed on the phone which states that GPRS is activated on your account and that you successfully attached to the serving GPRS node. Next setup the GPRS connection with your network settings. Start-Settings-Data Connections Menu-Edit Connections Create GPRS connection. Description: Hutch GPRS Connects to: The Internet Access point: portalnmms User name: (blank) Password: (blank) Primary DNS: Secondary DNS: IP address: (blank) Create proxy connection Description: Hutch proxy Connects from: The Internet Connects to: WAP network Proxy (name:port): 10.10.1.100:9201 Type: WAP Username: blank Password: blank In data connections Internet Connection: Hutch GPRS WAP connection: Hutch GPRS In Internet Explorer,Menu-Options-Connections, Tick 'Auto Detect Settings' Try and connect to both addresses. http://www.google.com/wml (Tests Internet connection) wsp://www.google.com/wml (Tests WAP connection + proxy server) The WAP+proxy connection should work (aka WAP over GPRS). This may be restricted to WML pages and may not include mail or MSN messenger etc. but again this depends on your network provider. If the Internet connection fails then you may need to speak to you network provider about their GPRS internet service. This is a full internet which gives you access to all services but this subscription usually costs more then the WAP service. If the above GPRS connection works then try setting up MMS. Start-Settings-Data Connections Menu-Edit Connections Create GPRS connection. Description: Hutch MMS Connects to: MMS Network Access point: portalnmms User name: (blank) Password: (blank) Primary DNS: Secondary DNS: IP address: (blank) Start-Menu-Options-Account setup - MMS Menu-Edit connections, Menu-Add Description: Hutch MMS MMSC= http://mms.orange.co.uk/ Gateway=WAP 1.0 Gateway IP Address: 192.168.224.010 Port: 9201 Server: Hutch MMS
Guest srikanth.reddy123 Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Hey Martin. Thank You for your help. My GPRS is now ative. Once correction to the steps you sent is that the "check box" in Internet Explorer,Menu-Options-Connections, 'Auto Detect Settings', should be blank and not selected. But Thanks once again for your help...Srikanth
