Guest GRussell Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Hi, I currently own an original SPV but the battery now goes flat in about 1-2 hours. A new battery will cost me £40-50. I have spoken to Orange, who will let me have a E200 for £100 giving me £30 for my old SPV (if I don't tell that the battery is dead). Is the E200 worth getting at this point in time, or is it about to be replaced by a better model and I should wait for that? (I am a bit out of touch of upcoming phones). Is there a problem with having the SPV charging daily? As I had mine connected to my Office PC (charging) which could have been the result of the battery dieing after 12 months. Any help appreciated, -Graham
Guest drblow Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 This question has been asked several times recently, and a search will bring you loads of results about peoples opinions on the matter.
Guest SystemicAnomaly Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 £100 seems expensive for a contract SPV. I upgraded my original spv to an E200 for free, however, i did this by asking to be disconnected (orange hate losing customers) and their disconnections department are authorised to give you a good deal (even without trading in your current SPV) It sounds like you need to upgrade now, so the E200 is a wise choice, unless you do not need the inbuilt cam/bluetooth/wm 2k3 in which case get a reliable Moto Mpx200. The next lot of smartphones look like coming out between Oct and Dec!
Guest Disco Stu Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 There are no SPVs, E100 nor E200, on the Orange website right now so you might have to wait for a bit
Guest Coucou Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 E200 and MPx200 are both available on upgrade section of the website.
Guest GRussell Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Do the E200 and the MPX200 run the same Smartphone OS? I thought the E200 ran the newer version, and the MPX200 had the same OS as the original SPV? -Graham
Guest Disco Stu Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 You're right there Graham. The 2003 version is better and you get more phone memory with the E200. I'd recommend the E200 despite its faults although I do think you've been quoted a high price (depending on your circumstances, of course).
Guest GRussell Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I've been with Orange for 5 or so years I think now. I did think it was a little expensive, but I recently dropped my tarrif to Talk 30 as I don't use it as much as I used to. I thought that was the reason they were up'ed the price, but I will threaten to leave to see if I can get it any cheaper. What are the faults you mentioned with the E200? Can't be worse than the original SPV can they? -Graham
Guest Disco Stu Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Those faults in full : http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=98883 You could give this thread a quick scan or just browse the E200 section. Important to keep in mind though is that not everyone has these problems. I don't have the buzzing ; battery life is fine as I'm used to keeping it in the charger at home and in the office ; the sticky action button is probably caused by my carelessness with the lunchtime satsumas  ...etc So, you're actually getting it for £70 and losing your old SPV ? That's not too bad then, in fact it's quite good when you're on Talk30.
