Guest Leon1970 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Hi all, I need a bit of help here. I got a problem that wasn't there before and am not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to create a new home skin but when I install it and go to Settings/Home Screen, it's not in the list though the new skin is being used. It's being listed in Add/Remove programs but no where else. If I choose a default home skin, there doesn't seem to be a way to revert back to the one I just made. I thought I'd download a home skin I have already posted here to see if it does the same: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=104989 Unfortunately it does, though it never used to. Odd :D Anyone give me any pointers on what I'm doing wrong? Please? Many thanks. Oh, here's what I'm working on in case anyone's interested:RR.gif
Guest RemyJ Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Open the homescreen xml in Internet Explorer on your desktop and make sure it doesn't reoport any XML syntax errors. Make sure the title in the homescreen XML is unique.
Guest Leon1970 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Thanks for that bit of info. Unfortunately there isn't any syntax errors and the title is unique :D Is anyone able to download the Battlefield homeskin in the link two posts above and can confirm whether or not the skin appears in the Home Screen list please? That way I'll know if it's the file or my phone at least. Thanks all.
Guest scott2eyes Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Looks pretty cool... although I have to say I'm more of a Vauxhall Nova guy  As for what the problem is... Tricky one! I can't download the Battlefield homeskin because of a draconian firewall, so I can't tell whether that works for my phone or not- the only thing I can suggest is what RemyJ suggested- open the XML file in Internet Explorer and see if it reports any errors- sometimes it will open some of the file and then report an error half way down. How are you installing the homescreen- are you creating a CAB or HME file, or just copying a .home.xml file? (The fact that it's in Add/Remove programs leads me to think that it's the former- in which case I can't help you much, as I haven't used them, and don't really understand how they work!)
Guest Leon1970 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Thanks for your help guys. I've managed to fix the problem by creating another xml file from fresh. Not sure what exactly the problem was but I "think" the title and the name of the file hme created had to be the same. Not 100% sure but I need to update the Battlefield skin so that should now show in the Home Screen list too. Not to mention that I spelt Calandar wrong in the Battlefield skin ooopsy :D Thanks again though, I'll have the R Racing uploaded after I finish work, so in about a couple of hours. Cheers.
Guest RemyJ Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Your XML file has to end with ".home.xml" or it won't show in the list. It's currently "BF Vietnam.xml" and it should be "BF Vietnam.home.xml"
Guest Leon1970 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 ah ha! Such a small oversight that when I recreated the file, I autmatically did the 2nd time around. lol oh well, that's my stupidity for ya. Thanks again for your help though :D
