hi,

i have a mpx200 running smartphone os 2002 and have encountered a problem. i don't want to do a hard reset and start from scratch, so i'm hoping someone here has a solution for me. my "remove programs" screen is totally empty! nothing is showing up there. in addition to this, when i put cabs on the phone to execute them, they always fail to install. i have reset the phone and taken out the battery and sim for a time, but these things didn't work. does anyone have any idea what is going on????

2 things :

1. Have a look in IPSM Windows AppMgr Install. If there is anything in there, delete it. These are the dumped files from a failed installation. Did you try to install some Pocket PC software ?

2. After installing around 35 games / apps the Add / Remove Progs function gets overloaded. They should still show under ActiveSync Tools though.

3. Otherwise your phone may have already done a partial reset so a total hard reset is recommended.

Let us know how you get on

i had this a long time ago, it was due to a partial hard reset...i suggest you do a full hard reset...will doyour phone good anyway, it doesnt take long to install stuff again, less than an hour easily and all your contacts are synced back from your pc.

discostu and zeta,

first off, thank you very much for taking the time to post a reply. i checked the install file you mentioned discostu and there are no files in that folder. however, i can no longer install progs onto my phone and activesync is acting funny (i can no longer connect). i dread the hard reset, but i'm beginning to think its an eventuality. my computer crashed a couple of weeks ago, so i lost all my emails with registration codes. i have begun to recover those codes through the vendors, but some have not responded. do any of you know where registration codes are kept on the phone? is there a speciall folder? thanks.

This is a known bug with 2002 OS after installing 50 apps the

remove list becomes blank, what you can do is remove app via Activsync, then when you get below 50 apps the list should

reappear.

A hard reset is a bit extreme for this particular problem.

when it happened to me i had nowhere near 50 apps installed, but then again i didnt have probs with active sync, so i might have had a different bug. Hopefully awarner is right, but if u do have to do a hard reset then if you wanna recover codes, i think it varies from program to program, check the install folders (Program Files on both the storage card and IPSM) look for obvious files and open them in notepad to see if the key is there, for exmaple, i know xbar2.0 uses this method. Other progs might put the code in the registry, so youd have to go fishing through there too.

Good luck, hope awarner is right though, means no hard reset :D

hey guys,

thanks for your suggestions. i didn't try awarner's suggestion as i had already done a hard reset by the time i saw his reply. but i will definately keep the advice on mind...i was not aware that this was a bug with the 2002 os. i have finished installing all my old programs and no bug yet...so i am very happy, although the process was a time consuming one. thanks to all who helped!
