Guest FrankyG Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 after a week of pretty good skiing in Alpe d'Huez and a couple of snow falls so late in the reason.. it was time for some fun in the snowpark.. big jump, clear the plateau and land on the down ramp, turned out to be bigger air than ever imagined, indeed cleared plateau.. and way past landing zone. not so bad you might say,esp as it was on camera... however... the moral to this story is-with such big jumps make sure you land on ski's or board, not your ass like me. so here i am, in grenoble spinal injury unit with pins and plates holding my lower spine together, wondering if i'll be able to pee naturally again. good news is that they have me on my feet walking a little a day-sore as hell and exhausting.. but trust me.. walking at all is a HUGE relief that i can't describe, especially as the surgeon tells me 1mm more of bone penetration and i would have been paralysed neck down :-/ so, as my old man said to me 'be careful, you're on you're last spine' wise words indeed... be careful people.. adrenalin can be a demanding taskmaster. Thanks for the well wishes, I'm doing pretty good...still got some problems due to spinal cord damage but I'm on my feet and got a few months off work to enjoy the summer :) Someone remind me where's there's summer skiing? @Superkingdave; Got airlifted off the slopes-just. They were about to stick me on a snowmobile, then ambulance, then drive to Hospital...that was until I said the magic words 'I can't feel my foot' Boy, did things change then! 15 mins later I was airborne. Speaking up probably prevented paralysis, as any more movement into my SC would have..well..don't wan't to contemplate it. I did the tunnel, but the massive 18Km run was closed due to insuffient snow cover...still a blast though. Just been catching up with whats new smartphone wise...looks like a couple of new ones to look out for...mmm. Cheers...

I got to ski La Sarenne a few times, Alpe D'huez is probably the best place for actual skiing ive been, though St Anton beats it for night life. Glad to here you are on teh road to recovery. The worst ive evr done skiing (and in fact evr) was fracturing my wrist on a dry slop in training for a ski holiday!
