Guest EdwardR Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 First of all, I have read up on similar problems on this forum and mine is not the same (and the resolutions to those programmes not working). I have Win XP running on my puter with Active Sync 3.7 instaled. My smartphone is an Orange SPV E100 My phone is not being recognised in XP. I've tried updating all the Windows side of stuff. If I get the phone recognised on the computer it comes up as "Unknown USB device". It never recognises it as a Smartphone. Running Activesync (I have already uninstalled and reinstalled this) doesn't work. It just doesn't see the USB connection. I've tried the device in all 4 ports. I've even since performed a hard reset on the phone (backed up all my contacts by hand first). Still nothing. Just can't get the computer to recognise the phone. I so don't want to have to speak to Orange about this. Their technical support is abysmal. I will probably be told that it's because of a service blip in the Camden area (this was once given as the explanation for a loss of all SMS messages!!!). The computer's working fine. The phone's working fine. The cradle presumably works fine as it's coming up with a USB device when I slot my phone in. What else can it be????
Guest squall Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I have the same error on the same phone, haven't had time to look into a solution, however my feeling is that reinstalling the 1.6 update may sort it.
Guest EdwardR Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 But how can I reinstall the 1.6 update when I can't get it to connect to my computer???
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Communication problems between PC and mobile is often cause by a firewall. If you ARE running security programs then try temporarily disabling them and see if that helps.
Guest squall Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 the update can be rinstalled directly from the bootloader, rather than going through active sync. Hold power and voice record when switching phone on to enter boot loader (dont press action key) then put the phone in the cradle (it will see a usb device) then run update
Guest EdwardR Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 THE SPV 1.6 update doesn't appear to be at The normal Orange SPV Incidently, I forgot to mention, I tried to install the phone on another computer in my household and get the same problem (this computer has no internet / firewall)
Guest EdwardR Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 It's not seeing the phone. Even when I put it in its cradle.
Guest squall Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 check for signs of damage at the plug / socket. give it a blow. Sounds like you may well have to contact O
Guest EdwardR Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Seems like I will! No doubt three more handset replacements and two cradles down the line (not to mention a few wrong models) it might start working again. thanks for your help.
Guest ncolli1981 Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 I had exactley the same problem, tried all of the standard stuff, re-installed active sync, checked all connections, turned off fire wall, etc. Turns out the problem was with XP. I reinstalled XP and got a message stating that XP was not compatible with the following software, active sync was listed. I have now gone back to windows ME. I still have a couple of problems but can now access my phone on the PC. If you ask me windows XP is far to buggy and overall a crap OS.
Guest Maverick Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 I had a problem earlier... So went to Device Manager and uninstalled all the USB devices and re-installed. That fixes it most of the time. If you ask me windows XP is far to buggy and overall a crap OS. Compared to Windows Me ?? U must be joking !! I almost became a Lin%x fan when I had Windows Me on my PC :? .
